Buongiorno FWPS community! The Italian language is back in class!
Grazie, and thank you for the warm welcome I received from many, many parents and lots and lots of students! We hope to make the best possible use of our 50 minutes per week in your children class so that they will have at least a glimpse of the marvellous things that can happen when you open up to other languages and other cultures.
While Kerrie will welcome the Prep students and engage with them so that they’ll have the first taste of basic Italian words and starters, I’ll meet all other classes and check their prior knowledge of Italian, how much they can retrieve and how each classmate can help each other in order to regain a common base line of the language, level by level. We will then explore new aspects of the Language and the culture.
- Preps will work on colours and numbers and nice little words to make friends fast!
- Year 1 students will focus on the days of the week.
- Year 2 students will work on the topic of animals and will try out brief descriptive sentences.
- Year 3 students will work on birthdays and stretch their number confidence up to 31!
- Year 4 students will explore and expand the vocabulary involved with the weather.
- Year 5 students will revise previous materials and explore ways to share about themselves and offer appreciations.
- Year 6 students will revise and organise all previous work done, reflect on their efforts and on the relevance of knowing a second or third language.
The families’ job, meanwhile, is to hopefully be patient, supportive and praising for every word in Italian they hear from their kids. It takes very little for a student to shy away from trying and speaking another language, and ironically, it doesn’t take too much either, to make a young kid feel that one day is going to travel and communicate in different languages, just because we can and just because it’s top fun!
