North West Rugby 7's

Last Tuesday the 10th March, close to 60 Primary students competed in the North-West Primary School Rugby 7’s Gala Day at Gunnedah Rugby Park. Our students were divided into two Junior Primary teams, a Year 5 team and a Year 6 team. The Gala Day featured teams from schools spread all across our region, including Boggabri, Mullaley and even Scone.

St Xavier’s tasted success in both age groups. Despite not playing for any progression to the next carnival, one of our Junior teams finished in first place, with the second Junior team finishing just behind them! In the Senior age group, our Year 6 team finished the day in second place, just behind Scone Grammar, meaning they progress through to the next stage to compete in the Regional Finals.   The Year 5 team went into the semi-finals undefeated until they met their next opposition  - Year 6 St Xaviers! The date for the Regional Finals hasn’t been set yet, but is likely to be early Term 2.

The student representatives featured many players new to Rugby Union and the effort that they showed and the skills acquired throughout the day were a credit to them and the sportsmanship shown by all St Xavier's students was to be commended.

All the boys and girls who played that day would like to thank Paddy Paul, Ben Barlow, Neal Swain, Chris McCormack, Dave Grosser and Tim Mainey who helped out with coaching on the day.
