Akin Music Workshops

On Monday and Tuesday we were lucky enough to take a handful of girls from Yr 5 and 6 that have shown prior instrument or singing knowledge to the Gunnedah Conservatorium to participate in the AKIN Regional Workshop.

The Akin Program creates opportunities for arts participation in targeted rural communities, for girls aged 10-18. The Akin Program creates a safe space where girls can create music and stand up and say ‘I want to learn to use my voice’.

During the workshops the girls were given the opportunity to work with female song writers, conductors and story tellers who shared their skills and knowledge with the girls.

Over the course of the workshop, they learnt how to create a story and structure it into a song. They also learnt a few chords on the ukulele. These chords were then used to accompany their songs that they wrote in groups.

Year 6 Didge Group

Uncle Mark Atkins has been working with the Year 6 Didge Group on Thursdays. The boys have been loving the lessons and embracing the opportunity. Unfortunately Didge Group is on hold at the moment due to Covid-19.

Compass Parent Portal

We still have a few parents who have not logged into the Compass Parent Portal. The Portal will be used a lot more this year and it will become the main source of communication from your child's classroom to you at home. If you have lost your log in details, please contact the office.

Don't forget, once you have logged in on the Compass website, you can download the App to your phone.
