The Feast of the Ascension

This weekend we remember the Feast of the Ascension - when Jesus rose into heaven in front of his disciples 40 days after his resurrection from the tomb. When it was time for Jesus to go to his Father in heaven, he met with his disciples at the Mount of Olives. He instructed them to go out and tell the good news about God's love, he said "Go, therefore, make disciples of all the nations; baptise them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." (Matt 28:19-20)  Jesus told them he would always be with them and that they had to wait for the coming of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit would give them courage to do all the things that he had asked of them. The Ascension invites us to reflect on who Jesus is - and who we are empowered to become in Him. He is indeed the Way, the Truth and the Life. (John 14:6)
