School Council Report 17th December 2018

2018 has been a big year at Moonee Ponds West. The most significant process that has occurred this year was the school review. I had the privilege of sitting on the review panel, participating in three out of the four days of the review. I was very impressed by the thoroughness of the independent process which consisted of focus groups with students, parents/carers, teachers, and leaders. MPW students stood out for their confidence, articulation and support and love of the school.

As a good review should do, the process did identify some areas for improvement around consistency of approach across the school in teaching practices, better planning opportunities, more active engagement of students in their learning choices and more effective partnership with parents/carers. These priorities will now form the basis of the school’s strategic plan and annual implementation plans for the next four years.

Toilets, toilets, toilets – a focus of Junior School Council, Resources Committee and Master Planning sub-committee for several years. You may have noticed but these are actually now underway, and we are adding the toilets in the  Hall Building to be done as well.

The Environment Sub-Committee has made great ground as a new committee this year. They have updated the environment policy, attracted new parent members, applied for grants and we have become a Resource Smart School.

Thanks to the support of all school councillors this year and to Sandra as the Secretary and to both Jeff and Kerri as Executive Officers. I’m looking forward to saying farewell to the grade 6s tomorrow who been fantastic role models. Looking ahead to 2019 and wish everyone a relaxing break.
