Sports News - Badminton

On Thursday 25th August, the Year 7 girls badminton team competed in the Regional Division at Darebin International Sports Stadium.

When we arrived, the team was formally taken through a briefing which highlighted that this was a higher level of competition. The girls in the team were represented by:

• Mirna Marques  
• Leyhana Ahmed
• Mahdia Ramzan 
• Malek Asfoor

In our division there was Craigieburn and three other schools including Melbourne Girls Grammar, Eltham High and Hume Anglican Grammar.

Our girls should be congratulated on their performance to get this far into the competition. On the day, the girls were outclassed by the competition. However, they fought hard, learnt a lot from the experience and had an enjoyable day socializing with their competitors from other schools.

A big thankyou to Shireen Buya who attended the event as the second staff member. I hope that the girls will be back next year after their success in 2022.
