Divisional Athletics Sports
On the 11th August 2022, Craigieburn Secondary College attended the Divisional Athletics Carnival at Meadowglen International Stadium in Epping.
This was the first post- COVID athletics competition and is was clear that there were less competitors and schools competing- in fact, there were only 4 schools represented from 13 schools normally in this division.
In cold, windy and wet conditions, we had 11 eager competitors entered in a range of both track and field events.
These students included:
Year Level | Student |
7 | Sahan Sugathapala |
8 | Sharni Pateman |
10 | Arvin Atash Barab |
10 | Olivia Hogg |
10 | Dezyre Paiti |
10 | Cooper Statton |
11 | Jayne Georgaloudis |
11 | Tara Grima |
11 | Ashlee Johnston |
11 | Shanel Nicolazzo |
11 | Tayla Semmens |
All students performed amazingly well and supported each other throughout the carnival. Congratulations to the following students for achieving a first place in an event(s) and qualifying for the next round:
Event | Student |
Boys 13 Yr Shot Put | Sahan Sugathapala |
Boys 16 Yr Javelin and Shot Put | Arvin Atash Barab |
Girls 16 Yr 800m | Dezyre Paiti |
Girls 17 Yr Long Jump | Tara Grima |
A special mention to Sahan Sugathapala who participated in all running events except for the 3,000m. Sahan competed in the 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m plus additional field events. Also, a big thankyou to Shireen Buya, who attended as the second staff member and officiated at the High Jump Competition.
Finally, I would like to extend my gratitude to the students who, after being informed it was my birthday, gave me a muffin and publicly sang happy birthday.
In closing, I look forward to these students and a larger group of athletes from Craigieburn Secondary College participating at the 2023 Athletics Carnival.
Regards,
Mr Owen
