Expressions of interest for new members of the MPWPS Environment and Sustainability Sub-committee

The Environment and Sustainability Sub-Committee is a vibrant, innovative and progressive committee that reports to School Council and are looking for more interested members of the school community to join the membership of this group.

The role of the Environment and Sustainability Sub-committee is to provide strategic direction and leadership to ensure that MPW supports and encourages best practice in regards to Environment and Sustainability issues. The Environment and Sustainability Sub-committee has an overarching aim to promote an environmentally friendly and sustainable school, thereby reducing the environmental footprint of our school community.  Sub-committee members have an opportunity to discuss and address strategies to make MPW more ‘green’ and assist with seeking and managing grants, information and any assistance that could assist our school. There is lots to do with this sub-committee and we welcome all interested parents!

Last year, we made some progress towards the Resource Smart School (RSS) work and to complete the program, we need to undertake 5 modules related to water, waste, biodiversity, energy and a core module. RSS offers schools practical pathways to reducing resource usage and making financial and environmental savings. It also helps schools integrate sustainability into the curriculum and raise broader community awareness of sustainability related issues. We’re keen to have lots of people involved in the Program so we can complete it as quickly as possible.

More information about the ResourceSmart Schools Program can be found at https://www.sustainability.vic.gov.au/School/About-ResourceSmart-Schools

The Environment and Sustainability Sub-committee meets regularly at 6pm on a Wednesday night (next meeting Wednesday 19 February). There are approximately eight meetings each year. If you are interested in joining the Sub-Committee or being involved in some way (not on a sub-committee but involved via project work, working bees) please contact Sandra Monaghan at the school office moonee.ponds.west.ps@edumail.vic.gov.au  or contact one of the parent contacts and let them know. The current parent contacts are, Nigel Toussaint, Bec Romano, Sara Melvin and Nicole Marshall.
