...of all time!

David Hall, Head of the 10-12 Campus

For my entire life, I have always had a top 3 to 10 of just about everything:

Top 4 songs of all time:  4. Shiver me Timbers (Tom Waits);  3. New York State of Mind (Billy Joel); 2. Under Pressure (Queen & David Bowie); 1. The Rainbow Connection (Kermit the Frog is an underrated talent).

Top 6 polyatomic ions of all time: (in no particular order):  nitrate; sulphate; carbonate; dichromate; hydronium; and ammonium (hydroxide was unlucky to miss out).

Top 3 mistakes of all time, from my youth:  Trying to get things done rather than trying to get them done well; not pursuing my passion for music at a tertiary level; not asking enough questions and then not listening to the answers to the few questions I did ask.

We are all building out top 3's; our top 10's as we move through our life.  Although a top 6 polyatomic ion list is a little eccentric; we are all collating a list of mistakes both big and small.  The trick is to use them to find improvement and to push forward.

At Holloway Road, the opportunities are always there to make mistakes and to learn from them.  It is vital that you own your errors and do whatever you can to learn from them. So put your hand up!   Take a risk.  Ask a question.  Volunteer an answer when you really aren't that sure if you are right or not.  I promise you will be okay.  Worse case scenario you make a mistake and get to add it to the list.

Holiday - Celebrate

Every year, every holiday, my family have gathered on the last day's end and played the Madonna song 'Holiday'.  It is a bit odd but we dance around the room and let the term drift away from us as we get set to start a fresh new holiday period.  Invariably there is work to be done over the break; medical appointments to attend, leaking taps to fix; gardens to tend; assignments to complete and ALT's to correct but for that 3 minutes 55 we are off the hook.   I can't wait to hear that funky synth again on Thursday afternoon.

Whatever your plans, can I take the opportunity to wish you all the best for the break.  We will see you all back again on Wednesday the 26th April, ready to earn that next Madonna dance-off.
