'Where in the world is Frank Sparrow?'

It's a great question - and one that the VCE Theatre Studies cohort of 2023 will ask of its audience in the upcoming production.

The script, written by reknowned Australian playwright Angela Betzien, is a quirky non-naturalistic play that weaves stark urban reality with the mythic underworld. Against this grim backdrop the young hero, Frank Sparrow, must endure dangers and trials, overcome weakness, find love and face death. A uniquely modern legend, 'Where in the World is Frank Sparrow?' reinvents the hero’s journey for the 21st Century and propels its audience through the dangerous streets of Stab City and into the dark underworld of change and transformation.

The VCE students are responsible for all aspects of the production, including directing, set and props design, lighting and sound operation and design, acting, and costume and make-up design. They are assessed on their work and must demonstrate theoretical and practical knowledge, the ability to use theatre technologies, work safely and ethically,  and collaborate effectively to present their imaginative interpretation of the script to an audience.

We are currently in the testing and trialing stage of production, as students develop their ideas, source and make props, set and costumes, rehearse and refine their scenes, and evaluate their work prior to making decisions.

Please come along and support their endeavours. The production will be staged in the Holloway Theatre at 7pm on Friday 19th and Saturday 20th May. Tickets will be available via TryBooking from the start of Term 2 so keep an eye out on Compass for the link.
