Art Academy News Term 1

The Sandringham College Art Academy continues to thrive, offering engaging after-school sessions for our hand selected year 7-9 students. Led by experienced and passionate teachers, these sessions provide many opportunities for students to express themselves and explore different art forms.

Throughout this term, students have had the opportunity to participate in weekly sessions including drawing and painting in a variety of mediums, such as ink and watercolour. The teachers bring their unique perspectives and expertise to each class, encouraging students to push themselves and try new things.

In addition to the regular sessions, the art academy also hosted a special event featuring guest artist Alison Binks for a two-session workshop. Events such as these give students a chance to gain real world experience from working artists and gain valuable insights into the art world and artists’ practice. Alison is a talented artist with a wealth of experience in watercolour painting and has exhibited her works in galleries across Victoria.

During the first session, Alison demonstrated her painting techniques and shared her tips for working with watercolours. The students were in awe of her amazing work and enthusiasm for the medium. Alison's approach to painting was informative and inspiring, encouraging the students to experiment with the watercolour medium. In the second session, the students had the opportunity to put their newfound skills to the test in an ‘En plein-air’ (a French term meaning ‘to paint in the open air’) session. Alison provided individual guidance and feedback, helping each student to refine their techniques and create their own unique watercolour masterpiece.
