School Council meeting report 25th October 2021
School Council met online on Monday, 25th October
The meeting began with the Principal’s Report from Kerri.
2022 Foundation Transition Sessions:
The 2022 Foundation transition sessions will be commencing in November. Our newly enrolled future Foundation students will come in small groups to meet and work the F/1 teachers over three Fridays. Parents will have the opportunity to watch the Parent Information sessions from the school’s website, like we had available last year. These will focus on Literacy, Numeracy, Compass and an overview of the school. Their final day will be the whole school Transition Day in December.
The transition sessions are planned for:
Session 1: Nov 12
Session 2: Nov 19
Session 3: Nov 26
Session 4: Dec 7th Transition Day
Staggered Return to school:
We have started to welcome back F/1, year 2 and 5/6 students. It has been fantastic to see smiling faces and the enjoyment for students to be back onsite.
Teachers are planning for re-establishing the classroom routines and getting back into the usual learning structures onsite.
Those still at home for the staggered return will continue with remote learning.
The Staggered return continues until November 5 when all students return through their own gate and at a designated time. From November 5 the early start and early dismissal times will apply. Communication to the community about this will occur in the weeks leading into our return.
It was also discussed and recommended by School Council to maintain already planned Monday 1st November Curriculum Day.
Curriculum Days for 2022:
The school is planning to have two curriculum days at the beginning of 2022 the same as this year. School council ratified that Friday January 28th and Monday 31st will both be Curriculum Days. On January 28th the first day will be devoted to Staff Wellbeing presented by Maria Roberto.
Year 2 Sleep Over:
The year 2 sleepover is approaching this term. At this stage students are not actually allowed to sleep over on school grounds, the suggestion for a daytime experience be similar, where students will have an opportunity to bring a sleeping bag, change into their PJ’s and do the evening type activities during the day to simulate an overnight experience. This is currently being planned by the Year 2 team.
Class Placement Process:
A Class Placement letter and form will be distributed to parents again in the coming weeks. This is an opportunity for parents to provide considerations and insights. The classes are formed around three principles:
- where possible keeping the class group together and with the same teacher for a second year; an existing process at MPWPS.
- teacher judgement on academic, social and physical development of the student
- the academic and social mix of the class
Program Budget and Planning for 2022:
The Curriculum Action Teams will be beginning to review, evaluate their programs in preparation for their focus and objectives for 2022.
Next was a report from the Resources Committee.
There was discussion around potential for applying for a Capital Works grant with the VSBA for some development works in the school. Some ideas were around a two-storey portable and possible redevelopment of the Big Adventure area.
The Movie Night planned for the 26th of November will be cancelled and rescheduled for the beginning of 2022. A focus on Fun Run and Christmas Raffle for this year.
Education Committee shared their report.
The committee is reviewing some of our school policies relating to Digital Technology and Child Safe, these will be discussed at the next Education Meeting in November.
More details were discussed about the Return to School plans and changes to the arrival and departure times for the remainder of term 4.
Dress Code Feedback was briefly discussed, an action plan going forward will be drafted and the beginning of the Dress Code Policy will be drafted, a review of the existing uniform will begin and School Council to endorse the new policy in 2022.
The next meeting will be held on November 22nd.
