Italian Day

This year, CSC celebrated Italian Day on May 11.

The idea underlining this event was the concept of “community,” in part due to the necessity of running Italian Day as a school-wide team effort and because at CSC we organise Italian Day to bring everyone together to celebrate, enjoy, and learn about Italian culture outside of our Italian classes.

The event took place during our lunch break in the basketball court area, specially turned into an open air gelateria (ice-cream shop) where students and staff were able to enjoy the sunny weather with traditional gelati and cannoli. In doing this, the Languages team were able to engage the wider community by purchasing the foods from local Italian businesses. Moreover, to make these accessible to all students, the team agreed on selling them for $1 each, a decision that turned out to be a winning one: the students flocked to the gelati and cannoli station, and the school was able to raise over $250! Students were then involved in deciding how to spend the events’ proceeds, and the school is currently considering the local charities and foundations suggested.

As mentioned above, Italian Day has been a team effort from start to finish, and the Languages team are immensely grateful to all the staff involved in organizing catering, setting up the area, spreading the word, serving food, running activities and cleaning up before class time. We acknowledge that without the help of our youth workers, Wellbeing team, Food Technology team, Multicultural Aid staff, Physical Education team and everyone else who volunteered to help organize it, 2023’s Italian Day would not have been as successful as it was. Grazie a tutti!
