Central Idea

Transport changes over time

As an International Baccalaureate world school, authorised to teach the Primary Year’s Programme, we explore six transdisciplinary themes each year.

During this unit we will discuss the changes in transport over time and how these changes have affected our lives. We will ask the children to bring in artefacts such as photos, pictures and models of different types of transport to show its development.

Action

Action in the PYP is initiated independently by the student as a result of the learning process. Action may be bringing a book or artefact related to the inquiry to school, or student-initiated drawings/posters/research. We celebrate our students’ ACTION every day in our classrooms. If you see your children taking independent action at home encourage them to share their action with their class.

Approaches To Learning

Research: using computers/books to research
Comprehension: answering questions about transport from their reading
Analysis: comparing old and new transport
Evaluation: predicting the timeline of the different types of transport
Creating: creating transport with their buddies
Social: working as teams with the buddies and share the materials
