West Preston Lakeside Football Club

The West Preston Lakeside Football Club (WPLFC) is a diverse and inclusive community sporting club and comprises approximately 650 families and members engaged in the local community. The club has approx. 330 junior players including Auskick, 125 senior players (men’s and women’s sides) and a netball side. Financial and social members number approximately 600 and the club competes in the Northern Football and Netball League (NFNL), which is one of the most competitive leagues in metro community football.

Our club prides itself on being a well organised and well managed football club. It holds gold level accreditation in the Swisse AFL Quality Club, was awarded Darebin City Council Sports Club of the Year in 2015 and 2016 and was NFNL Club of the Year 2021. We are committed and strive to ensure that members have access to sporting opportunities that maximise positive health outcomes and support individual, family and community growth.

WPLFC operates in one of the most disadvantaged and culturally diverse areas in metro Melbourne and functions as a thriving community hub that accommodates a range of activity including education, welfare, sport, and community groups. Our club has a diverse membership base with over 33 countries represented in the junior ranks.

Our club has a successful junior program with children playing in 10 different age groups – starting with Auskick (under 8) all the way to under 17s. The junior program is managed by a passionate junior committee which has great support from parents and volunteers alike. We are very proud of the junior program which provides a supportive, inclusive and safe team environment for kids to develop and thrive. We are also able to provide a path to senior football – 15 players from our junior ranks contributed to each of the last two back-to-back senior premierships.

We want to continue to grow our junior program and ensure we participate more equally in girls’ football which we’ve struggled to do in recent years. We’ve appointed a passionate team of people solely focused on growing participation in junior girls’ football while ensuring we continue to provide an inclusive and caring environment. Additionally, the growth in our senior women’s program now also provides junior girls with a path to senior football, if so desired, which would further enhance the development of girls’ and women’s football.
