Over the last few weeks since being back at school, the students have been practicing the skills and concepts covered during remote learning.
Although our school year was interrupted, I'm very proud of what our students have achieved!
Let's see what each year level has been working on for the last fortnight...
The Foundation students have responded to the artist Kim McConnell's bold and colourful artworks by creating their own patterns. They made these patterns by drawing different lines across the page to create sections, then filled each section with patterns made by repeated lines and shapes.
The Year 1/2 students have been exploring the paintings by Yayoi Kusama from her collection named My Eternal Soul. Kusama is famous for using dots in her artworks. The students created their own artwork in response to My Eternal Soul which uses repeated dots and lines to make patterns. The students listed many adjectives which would describe the patterns in their artwork and used these works to speak about their work.
The Year 3/4 students are using paintings by Georgia O'Keefe to demonstrate their knowledge of organic shapes, patterns and contrasting colours. The students started this drawing piece by putting an organic shape in the center of the page, dividing the background into sections, and then filling each section with a new pattern. The drawings will be completed with contrasting colours - using warm colours for the organic shape in the center and 4 cool colours for the background patterns.
The Year 5/6 students are concluding the unit of drawing a human figure by creating a superhero alter-ego for themselves and and drawing them in an action pose in a relevant location. The students brainstormed some character traits that resonated with them and chose the super powers and weaknesses they would have. The students will explain the subject matter and creative decision making in their drawing.
