Year 5/6 News

On-site Camp Experience

This year’s on-site camp experience was full of games and activities aimed at creating a relaxed, fun atmosphere where teamwork and problem-solving were fostered. Despite some rainy weather, students were mature, responsible, and brought a positive attitude. Students displayed excellent thinking and creativity when designing their t-shirts and creating their rafts. The students developed several different designs, with many being able to carry weights while remaining afloat.

While in the Scavenger Hunt, students showcased their general knowledge in a captivating QR code hunt!

Aldo fired up the roaring pizza oven before students prepared pizzas with flair and passion. Grazie Aldo!

"On-site camp experience was the next best thing to real camp. Even though it was raining, we found a way to have fun! We watched movies and played games. We even used the pizza oven to make pizzas. The teachers put in alot of effort to make it an experience we will never forget." - Emilia, Stella, Allesia & Emily

"What I liked about camp was when we all played games. I felt connected with my class. I also loved when we made the pizza together (the best pizza I've made so far!) - Odessa

"I learnt how to reconnect with my friends considering I have only seen them on a flat screen on Zoom for a while. I really enjoyed socialising and talking to my friends." - Rebecca

PBL

Students have begun constructing their cities after designing them collaboratively with peers. They have taken into account several aspects of making a city such as issues around housing, business, food, transport, public services, sustainability, power, and natural disasters. Students are now building their cities with sustainable materials as much as possible. Students have found a location on a world map where they could build their city and taken into account natural environmental factors and cultures to create an inclusive city.

Literacy

Over the past fortnight, students have been exploring Autobiographies and Biographies. Students have brainstormed and used chronological timelines to help order their personal stories, highlighting important events and memories. Students have drafted and edited their stories before publishing. Students have discussed the difference between Autobiographies and Biographies and chose between a number of influential people to explore further.

End of Term Reminders

As we come to the end of term and to what we sure will be an exciting time, we remind all families to regularly monitor Skoolbag, Google Classrooms and Operoo for important notes and permission forms.

Last week we sent home a letter outlining some requirements for students this week.

These include:

  • household recyclables for our PBL structures and designs
  • a white t-shirt (or coloured shirt in their House colours).
