F.A.D. – Wednesday May 23rd

Thank you to all the volunteers – adults and children – who planned and ran an activity for our Free Activity Day (or F.A.D.) last week.

It was a fantastic day rated very highly by the children involved. We had a great range of activities on offer – it’s always amazing to see how many different talents and skills people in our community have, and wonderful to see the children try new things and build interest in areas they may not have otherwise experienced.

Your time and effort is greatly appreciated!

Buddy grades

This week all buddy grades across the school got together to participate in an event focusing on social and emotional learning.  All buddy grades were encouraged to participate in an activity to foster whole school practices including rights and responsibilities and restorative justice.

On Wednesday, the whole school participated in buddies day. Room 12 met with Room 1 and Room 2 to learn about animal behaviours. There are four different animal behaviours named crocodile, fox, mouse and dolphin. Crocodile behaviour is when you get angry and aggressive. Fox behaviour is when you hear someone talking about someone behind his or her back and you either tell someone else or tell the person who was spoken about. Mouse behaviour is when you see something bad happen and you don’t do anything about it. Dolphin behaviour is when you speak up and focus on the solution of the problem (this is what the school expects from kids!) We had to do a collage of each of the animals using the colours of what we thought represented the animal behaviour we chose. For example, the colours chosen to represent crocodile behaviour was red and orange. We were in groups working with big buddies and little buddies to make decisions about how decorate the animal collage. At the end of the session, we ate lunch on the footy pitch with the whole school. It was amazing and we were able to let our creative energy flow.
