Happy Friday Bundoora Families,
Term 2 started off with the unfortunate news of Ms. Strathairn’ injury. It looks like she will be absent from school for several weeks to recover fully. I am in regular contact with Ms. Strath, and she is doing well under the circumstances. I am sure you all join me in wishing her a speedy recovery.
In Ms. Strath’s absence the staff and I will ensure the school continues to operate effectively. If at any time you have an questions or issues please contact me via the office on 9467 2601 or via email: julie.fanger@education.vic.gov.au
The staff and students have settled back into school routines well and we are all preparing for a busy and exciting term. Term 3 will see the presentation of our school concert and practice is already underway.
Upcoming and past events
A group of our wonderful parents organised a ‘New parents' afternoon tea which took place on Thursday 4th May. It was great to see the turnout of not only our new prep families, but other families new to our school. Dayna, Mr. Cass and our student leaders hosted this event and it was a huge success. This opportunity allowed everyone to chat and meet some new faces. Thank you to Dayna and Corrie for their efforts in organising this wonderful event.
Also on Thursday 4th May, Newton Manor Constructions and Haskell Architects allowed our staff and School Council members to have a private tour of our building site. This was their first look at what the new building will look like. It also gave our junior school staff the opportunity to see the new spaces they will be moving into very soon. (See the Building Update for more details.) The staff were very excited and were surprised at how big it is inside. The internal layout is very impressive and staff are very eager to move in asap.
Next Friday, the 12th of May our Parents and Friends Committee will be holding our annual Mother's Day staff for all the special people in our students lives. All students will have the opportunity to attend the stall and purchase items ranging in price from 50 cents to 5 dollars. Please send along a bag to put purchases in with your child and money in an envelope of purse/wallet to ensure no money is misplaced or lost on the day.
On Wednesday the 17th of May we will have School Council beginning at 7pm. I look forward to seeing our new council in action.
The swimming program will begin next week for our year 1-4 students. This program will take place from Monday to Thursday at Watermarc Greensborough and our students will travel by bus. Please ensure your child has their swimming gear with them each day ready for their sessions. Please refer to Compass for more details.
Unfortunately, our Prep Information session planned for the 3rd of May had to be cancelled. We have now rescheduled this event for Wednesday 30th May. The session will begin at 6pm and our wonderful prep teachers will provide families with information about our school and in particular our prep program. Please encourage anyone thinking of enrolling their child at our school to attend so that they can see the amazing programs and facilities we have at Bundoora.
Throughout this term we will be holding regular tours of our school. If you are interested or know anyone who would like a tour of our school, please contact Louise on 9467 2601 to book your place.
Celebrations
Last term Mrs Newell once again ran Bundoora’s Got Talent. Believe me, we certainly do have talent at this school. From singers to dancers and even mind readers we have talent of every kind here at BPS. Our winner was Tilly Goldstein who sang beautifully whilst playing the guitar. She was truly amazing. There were so many unique acts it was very difficult for everyone to choose only 2 acts to vote for. Congratulations to everyone who entered BGT. I hope you try out again next year.
Our students participated in Interschool sports today against Watsonia Heights PS. Well done to our 5/6 students representing our school so beautifully.
Congratulations also to our cross-country participants. Students who achieved first, second and third place were presented with their ribbons at last weeks assembly by our Sports Captain. The first 10 students in each age group will now be invited to attend the district cross county on the 15th of May.
Anzac Day
On Tuesday 25th of May I had the privilege to accompany or School Captains, Vice Captains and their families to the morning service at the Watsonia RSL. Our students represented the school with pride and made moving speeches at assembly on Friday which shared the day with the entire school. Our school placed our beautiful hand/student made wreath at the cenotaph along with wreaths from other members of the local community. Thank you to all families who attended on the day and a huge thank you to Mrs Allibon who not only attended on the day but had the vision to create such an amazing wreath to represent our school.
Staffing Update
Congratulations to Mrs. Lisa Davison, who works at BPS as an Education Support Staff member. She has successfully gained a new position at Epping Primary School. Lisa has been an asset to our school community and supported numerous students on their learning journey. We wish her all the best in her new role.
Our canteen is currently closed due to Mrs. Petrovski suffering an injury to her hand. She is hoping to be back onsite next week. QKR and the canteen will remain closed until Val is able to return to her duties.
Other items
Please remember that our Kiss and Drop Zone is for 2-minute parking only and drivers are to remain in their cars. Banyule Council inspectors have been alerted by concerned members of our community and have been patrolling the area regularly. Fines have been given to several people for not abiding by this rule.
Please ensure your child/ren attend in full school uniform. Hoodies and other garments worn over uniforms must be removed once at school. Second hand uniform is available from the office every Friday from 2.30pm and new uniforms can be purchased online from FCW Winter uniform is encouraged at this time.
Please contact the office if you have an enrolment for 2024 and Louise will send through the relevant documentation for you to complete.
Have a lovely weekend everyone, and thank you for your continued support.
