This term, in grade 5/6 the students have explored how energy from a variety of sources can be used to generate electricity. They learned about the two types of electrical circuits and created their own circuits using ‘PhET’ and ‘Brain Box’. Students also identified finite and unlimited resources used to generate electrical power and examined ways we could create a more sustainable future.
5/6 B students have included a sentence or two about what they enjoyed most about the topic.
Tanish - This term in discovery I have learnt about electrical circuits and have used PhET to create and power online circuits. We used a brainbox to create simple and parallel circuits. We also learnt about how electricity is the movement of electrons.
Inara - This term in discovery I have enjoyed learning about electricity. We have been using PhET simulator to create and power online circuits. I have also learned that there are two types of circuits, Parallel and simple. Another thing we learned and experienced was that the teacher had provided us with a box of electrical equipment and we had made our own circuits and we had also powered fans, music boxes and many more.
Stella - This term in discovery we have learnt about the different types of circuits, parallel and simple circuits. I enjoyed the website Phet we used.
Oliver - This term in discovery we were learning about electricity and its history. We were using PhET circuit builders to learn about conductors and insulators. An insulator is something that doesn't let electrons flow and a conductor lets electrons through like copper and us. We also learnt about the history of electricity, I learnt that the ancient Egyptians found a fish that gave them a shock and that's where this all started. One other thing we learnt about is where electricity came from like wind, hydro (water) anymore. 🙂
Kristie - I really liked the game called PHET because it was so much fun, I made lots of really cool circuits!
Lex - This term in discovery we have learned about electricity. We learnt about conductors and insulators. A good insulator is rubber and a good conductor is copper or metal. We tested our knowledge of electricity by playing the game PhET. PhET is an electricity game where you can make circuits and it is really fun. We also learned about how electricity and solar power and I learnt a lot. My favourite part of it was when we made circuits in real life with batteries, wires, motors and a lot of other things. In our group, we made a battery to power a motor which was really fun. This is what I learnt in discovery this term.
Angelia - This term I learnt how to make electrical circuits on PhET. I also learnt how to tell the difference between parallel and series circuits. What I also find interesting is the history of electricity and the intriguing discovery of the ancient Egyptians.
Grace- This term we have been learning about electricity. We have learnt about the different types of electricity they are called current and static. We also used a site called PHET and we made our own circuits on it. It has been very interesting learning about electricity.
Christopher - we learned about electricity and the history of it. Ms Agar and Ms Bruce taught us about how electricity is created using circuits and wires and about what materials are insulators and conductors. We also used a thing called PhET and we learned how to use circuits with it. We learned what different people did with electricity like Thomas Edison who made the more advanced lightbulb he didn't invent.
Costa - This term in discovery we have been learning about electricity, electrons, protons and neutrons we've learnt about insulators and conductors, and we have been playing on an online simulator called PHET. In PhET we get to check the different types of conductors and insulators and we also got to make circuits. The different types of circuits are - parallel and simple, the teacher provided us with a game where you can light up a circuit
Eve - This term in discovery we have been researching electricity, circuits and atoms and their particles. We used PhET to play around with making circuits. We explored the difference between static electricity and current electricity. We used BrainBox to make simple and parallel circuits that lit up if everything was placed correctly. We learnt that atoms have different particles such as protons, neutrons and electrons. It was interesting and really fun.
Matthew - This term in discovery, we have been learning about electricity. Static electricity and current electricity. I enjoyed making parallel and simple circuits using the brain box thingy.
Jaycob - This term we have learned about electricity. We had time on PhET and got to create circuits and test if they work with batteries. Then we had to draw the circuits on a piece of paper.
Christina - This term I learnt about electricity. It was really fun and I learnt that everything is made of atoms. We used an app on Google called PhET to create circuits. Our teacher provided children with safe electrical equipment and we made our own circuits using the stuff that was provided and we made a lightbulb glow and a fan spin. It felt so magical knowing that I was able to create electricity.
Helios - This term we learnt about electricity and I loved it because there were very fun activities such as PhET Interactive Simulations where we could make circuits. We also learned about Static and Current electricity and used the BrainBox kits to create series and parallel circuits.
Amelia - This term we have learned about electricity and when we were going to use the circuits we went on the computers and used PhET.
We love when one of us usually makes a laggy circuit.
ZANE - SO…PHET IS FUN IT'S A WEBSITE FOR ELECTRICITY SCIENCE STUFF.
OSCAR - We learned that electricity has to ‘buff up’ to go through the wires to the nearest suburb.
