Coming Up at FWPS

Year 3 & 4 Zoo Snooze Camps (various dates)

This year our Year 3 & 4 students will be heading to the Melbourne Zoo for an one-night overnight camp. Each grade will be attending on a different evening, with the first camp this coming Monday, starting with 4AF. Several communications have already gone out to relevant families via Compass, which outline the key information. We look forward to seeing photos of their exploration of the Zoo after dark!

2024 Prep Enrolment Information Sessions and School Tours (various dates)

In May, our school’s leadership team and Prep Transition Coordinator will host a series of Enrolment Information Sessions and School Tours for families of students commencing Prep in 2024. These sessions will outline the vision and values of our school, and how these drive the program of learning – academic, social and emotional – for our students.

Immediately following the Information Session, we will conduct a school tour, co-hosted by our current Year Six Captains (student leaders), Prep Transition Coordinator and school leadership team. On these tours, we will take you through the school buildings and grounds, as we describe the program of learning and experiences offered at FWPS.

We warmly invite all interested families to attend, who currently reside in our enrolment zone or who will reside there at the time of enrolment. For families living outside our zone, please contact your local school to discuss enrolment options.

2024 Prep Enrolment Information Sessions and School Tours will run on the following dates and times:

  • Tuesday 2nd May 2023, 9:30am to 10:45am
  • Tuesday 16th May 2023, 9:30am to 10:45am
  • Tuesday 16th May 2023, 6:00pm to 7:00pm
  • Tuesday 30th May 2023, 9:30am to 10:45am

Grade 5 - Guest Speaker, Cuc Lam (Thursday 4th May 2023)

As part of the Year 5 investigation into migration to Australia, we have been lucky enough to have the honourable Cuc Lam accept our invite to speak with the students. She arrived from Vietnam as a refugee in 1978 and has since worked tirelessly to help other migrants, and particularly women, adapt to their life in a new land. From her humble beginnings, Cuc Lam has become our current Deputy Major of Maribyrnong and Stony Creek Ward Councillor. We hope our students can gain an interesting perspective about her journey as a refugee and be inspired by the positive impact she has been able to have on our local community since arriving in Australia.

Kids Share Open Afternoon (Wednesday 10th May 2023)

On Wednesday 10th May from 3:30pm to 4:15pm, FWPS will be hosting a Kids Share Open Afternoon for our parents/carers of Years 1-6 (as Prep families participated in Open Afternoons last term). This is an informal and optional opportunity for you to visit your child’s classroom.

During this time, your child will be encouraged to share some of their work they have completed so far this semester with you, and have a discussion about their current learning goals. They might also show you around the room, including looking at the classroom displays and resources that help them with their learning. While teachers will be roving the room, the focus is on the conversation between you and your child, and your child’s opportunity to share and take ownership of their work. In lieu of digital portfolios, we hope that by viewing your child’s authentic and un-edited work, you will gain a different insight into your child’s progress, engagement and work output so far this semester.

On the day, all children will still be dismissed at 3:20pm. If you are planning to attend, you are welcome to return back to the room during the Open Afternoon window (3:20pm to 4:00pm). You do not need to stay for the full length of time (10 -15 minutes should be sufficient) and families are welcome to come and go as they please during the Open Afternoon window.

If you have multiple children at FWPS, this time will allow you to visit each room for a suitable amount of time to have each child share their work. We anticipate the peak period being straight after school, so please expect classrooms to be busy and noisy during this time. It is likely to be quieter as we get closer to 4:15pm.

*NOTE: 3TM will have their session on Tuesday 9th May, and 3MK will be on Thursday 11th May, as both grades will be at camp on Wednesday 10th May.

We thank you for your ongoing support of your child’s learning and encourage you to follow up with your child’s teacher if you have any concerns about your child’s academic growth.
