Diocesan Athletics Carnival

In chilly and blustery conditions at the Tamworth Athletics Centre, 16 of our students represented St Patrick's at the Diocesan Athletics Carnival. The day started off with a march past, in which Brydie and Connor had taken part as part of the welcome ceremony and once this had concluded, the carnival officially commenced with the 800m races. Jessica and Georgina competed first and they came 7th and 10th in their heats. Angus and Shaun ran in the same heat with Angus coming home 5th and Shaun 11th.  Annie was our only representative in the 11 Years Girls Section and she led for nearly the whole race, only to be piped on the line by the eventual winner. Annie came second overall and gained selection in the Armidale Diocesan Squad for the Polding Athletics Trials later this term. Connor and Lachie then competed in their 800m heat with Lachie coming 5th and Connor 11th.

Next, the large majority of our students competed in the 100m heats and all of them went exceptionally well with a number of narrow defeats. Special mention goes to Mia who came third in her heat resulting in her competing in the 9 Years Girls 100m Final and from that she was placed 10th overall.

Our students then competed in the school relays. Our three teams that competed performed very well as we were the youngest team competing in each of our heats as well as the smallest school, where we had to compete against schools from Tamworth, Armidale, Gunnedah, Moree, Inverell and Wee Waa.

During this time, Hamish competed in the 11 years High and Long Jump as well as Henry who competed in the Junior Boys Shot Put. Both boys went well and should be very proud of their efforts.

The final running event of the meet was the 200m and a number of our students were placed in the top three of their respected heats. Special mention goes to: Mia, Shaun, Annie, Connor who came third in their heats as well as Jessica and Brydie who came second.

Thanks again to the parents and grandparents who attended and supported our students on the day! It is very much appreciated. We wish Annie all of the best at the Polding Athletics Trials on Friday 9th September.

Sporting Schools Grant

We have been successful in obtaining another Sporting Schools Grant. This funding will be used to introduce our students to basketball. The school has organised instructors from Tamworth to lead these sessions and they will be taking place at the Youth Hall. This program will begin on Monday 17th October (Term 4) and will continue for four weeks.

Weekend Sports Update

I know at the moment a number of our students are getting toward the last games of their respective sports for the Winter Season. The school would love to hear how our students went! If any of our students would like to give a written match report of their game to be published in the sporting section of the newsletter, please let Mr Hyatt know.
