Campus Stories

Sydney Canberra Trip

We are delighted to say that all students and staff have returned to the College and have had a wonderful time exploring the nation's capital and Sydney.  If you haven't accessed our Facebook page recently, a stream of stories and photographs were posted each day they were away, and we would encourage you to log in and take a look.  Between Facebook and Instragram, it was fantastic to allow parents to witness the trip as it occurred, and for engagement between staff, students and parents to happen.

The students were fabulous, with staff stopped many times to be asked about who these really polite and remarkable students were.  Comments ranged from being the best group they have ever had visiting their various establishments, through to a stranger tracking the school down and leaving a positive comment on our Facebook pages about student behaviour and politeness.  Well done Cornerstone.  So wonderful to see and hear.

The College would like to acknowledge the staff involved in this trip, who have worked tirelessly to see it come to fruition.

Behind the scenes a great deal of work has been done, both from those staff on the trip (Mr van der Tang, Mr Taylor, Mrs Wright and Miss Needham), as well as Mr Tully organising the trip prior to departure. Also a big thank you to the office administration, staff and leadership who helped with the organisation and preparation tasks. It took a team to make this happen. Thanks to everyone involved! We appreciate you all.

Tree Planting

The Year 6 students had the joy of seeing a project through at the end of last term, with a tree planting and rehabilitation opportunity in partnership with the City of Busselton.

Earlier in the term, the students were able to propagate plants at the Geographe Landcare Nursery, and these plants have all taken root and were planted out on the banks of the Vasse River. They, with the support of the entire Primary school, and Secondary Certificate II Outdoor Education students, spent a day in the sunshine to plant out a huge area.

Special thanks to Mrs Ackerman for overseeing the project, for Rod from the Landcare Nursery, Will Oldfield and Kaye Lehman from the City of Busselton, as well as staff and students from the College. A wonderful project that is serving our community and environment.

Your Say, Your Call Competition Finalists

The Your Say Your Call Competition is offered by the WA Police Force and the Constable Care program, and in 2018, they are once again offering students across the state the chance to have their story developed into a professional interactive film.

This year four of our teams made the top ten. The Award Ceremony will be on Tuesday 24 July at the WA Screen Academy at ECU Mount Lawley. Two groups from Mr Arthur's Year 8 Health, one from Mr Cleaver's Year 9 Health, and a Year 10 student's independent submission have made it to the finals.

This year's groups are:

Year 8: Lucy Burge and Hope Adams, and Shannon Lucas, Alesia Riches and Lucia Kindt

Year 9: Josie Black, Tyla Lindsay and Taneesha Hodsdon

Year 10: Ally Vocisano

Ally Vocisano came away with an impressive second place in 2017, and her entry this year can be seen below.

Congratulations on each of our entrant's success to be finalists. We can't wait to hear how you fare at the finals later this week.

NAIDOC Celebrations

The Primary students from both campuses joined forces at the end of last term at the Dunsborough Campus for NAIDOC Day. We had special guests from the Foundation for Indigenous Sustainable Health (FISH) with us, and they led the students in a number of activities and events that delivered education about indigenous life and culture.

A fantastic day of learning and community. Special thanks to staff, parents and guests for their hard work in bringing the day together.

Mr Arthur Can Dance!

The Secondary Cadets program saw students making their best moves on the dance floor at the end of last Term. After Mr Arthur handed out a few tips, students worked in their squads for just 30 minutes, and came up with something of merit to catch the judges’ eyes.  If you want to see what unfolded, visit our Facebook page to see the video for yourself, or check out the embedded version right here!

Not bad for just two periods on a Monday afternoon.

Great Book Swap

Term 2 was rounded off with the annual 'Great Book Swap', which is a a regular event on the College Calendar.

The Year 5 class, under the careful eye of Mr Meyerink, is raising money for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. As part of the organisation of the day, the Year 5 students have baked a tasty and colourful selection of cup-cakes, gathered books together, and buddied up with younger students to help them select a book to take home.

The excitement in the room was tangible, and the care and respect the Year 5 students showed towards the visiting Pre-Primary class was delightful to see.

Well done Year 5 class. A fantastic effort which will make a difference in the lives of others.

Lap-a-thon

Each year, the students in the Primary School take part in a fundraiser Lap-a-thon, with money raised supporting an organisation in the Philippines that works with children in need.

The weather on Friday may have been cool, but we are grateful that the rain largely held off, and the day was successful and fun.  Well done to students who baked cupcakes to sell, for parents who supported our endeavours with face-painting and morning tea service.  We are very grateful for you all - and for the amazing team of teachers who brought it all together.  We appreciate you!

The results of your labour was that over $2000 was raised for our beneficiaries.  So good!

Secondary COGGs

Secondary COGGs was hosted last Friday morning by Mr van der Tang and student leaders. Special presentations by Mr Poole and Mr Cleaver about the science and maths learning areas were given, and we thank them for their contribution.

Acknowledgement of student excellence in character and academic progression was also made, as well as acknowledging the results of students in the recent Eisteddfod. Reminiscing over the Sydney/Canberra trip was also on the agenda.

On display were some of the tablet cuneiform's that Year 8 and Year 9 students made in Maths with Mr Poole, which was an interesting mix of history and mathematics coming together.

A great morning of celebrating God's goodness.
