‘RENAISSANCE’ Concert at Hume Central Secondary College

Thursday 31st March

Written by Luke Pappin (Performing Arts Captain)

On the 31st of March, CSC Music students got to go and perform at the ‘Renaissance’ Concert at Hume Central SC, along with 4 other schools from the North-West region. Our performance items were:

  • ‘Question Mark’ (Year 9 & 10 band) – Three Little Birds by Bob Marley
  • ‘The Altanators’ (Year 12 VCE Band) – Somebody to Love by Queen
  • Christian Siolo Lilo (Year 12 VCE student) – His Eye Is On The Sparrow (gospel hymn)
  • ‘Sound of Soul’ (Year 10-12 students) – Valerie by Amy Winehouse

On top of this, two students from the Year 12 VCE Band performed a group song at the end of the show, which involved performers from all schools. Overall the night was super fun and great. It was awesome to see other students from other schools, and the professional sound and lighting. We’d like to say thank you to Hume Central SC, Ms Gorman, Mr Sherlock and the CSC staff that came along.

VCAA Top Class Excursion

Tuesday 22nd March

Written by Luke Pappin (Performing Arts Captain)

On Tuesday 22nd March the Year 12 VCE Music class travelled to the Melbourne Recital Centre to see a special ‘Top Class’ concert, featuring the top scoring performers from the 2021 end-of-year VCAA performance exams.

The Year 12s went to the city, first stopping at a music store and admiring all of the

instruments and equipment on display, before grabbing lunch and heading to the show. The concert was completely sold out, with the audience full of students and teachers from other schools.

The concert involved both VCE bands and solo performers, as well as original music compositions and VCE VET performers. This experience opened our eyes and showcased the level of commitment top-scoring performers have, which encouraged us to be motivated to put more work into our learning and try harder.

Everyone enjoyed the day, and all the performers were fantastic. Thank you to Ms Gorman for organising a great opportunity for our class.

Students in Year 8 Music have been working on their instrumental skills this term as they learn to play chords and rhythms in a whole class band, and in smaller groups. Here are some students in 8H using our silent rehearsal mixers to prepare for their Term 1 assessment task.
