Peer Mentoring

Peer Mentoring Program

As the first term of secondary School for our Year 7 students comes to a close, our students have been working closely with their Peer Mentors in developing and practising important skills in resilience and rethinking challenges. The Peer Mentoring program is run by our Year 9 student leaders who were selected to participate in a 3 day workshop and trained to be Peer Mentors; these leaders are nominated by their classroom teachers in Year 8 based on their Leadership skills and are viewed as role models amongst their teachers and peers alike. The program is delivered within the Year 7’s Personal Learning sessions throughout the term.

The purpose of the program is to help students ‘Rethink Challenges’ and provides students with the following skillsets:

  • Responding resiliently to challenges
  • Acknowledging their skills and achievements
  • How to identify people who support them
  • Reflect on how they view achievement, success and failure
  • Support each other in their transition to secondary school
  • Take responsibility for their own wellbeing

These important skills support our students to successfully transition into Secondary school life, providing the students with the knowledge to manage challenges alongside having a ‘go to’ Mentor to help them navigate Year 7.
