Principal's Message

Dear College community,

Well done everyone on getting through what was a tough ten weeks. Many of our students and staff were impacted by Covid-19, and it is important to acknowledge the dedication and hard work of colleagues and teams in supporting absent students and staff to provide a continuous learning program. Our focus this term has been on the three R’s, Recalibrate, Reconnect and Re-engage as we know it has been challenging for many of us to settle back into classroom routines. Although staffing continues to be an issue, we are doing our best to provide stability for our students. The Assistant Principals and I have enjoyed connecting with students in the classes we have taught.

School Events

We have had a busy Term 1 with a few large school events having taken place already. These events are an important part of the work we are doing in relation to one of our key focuses this year of building strong relationships between the school, our families and students.

Our performing arts program continues to strengthen with the 2021 production Legally Blonde being held earlier this term. It was wonderful to welcome back our 2021 graduates to perform in what was an amazing production that showcased the talents of everyone involved. A big thank you to Mrs. Gorman who lead a dedicated and talented team of staff and students in what was yet another amazing experience for everyone who attended.

On Thursday  31st March, Craigieburn Secondary College students performed at the Renaissance music concert, hosted by Hume Central, and were outstanding. CSC will host the next event, Genesis 3, on Wednesday the 1st of June in the Ironbark Performing Arts Centre.

We returned to Oak Park swimming pool for our annual swimming carnival earlier this term. Students and staff enjoyed the fun and competitions with Bridgewater Blue taking out the championship.  Congratulations to all participants.

Breakfast Club continues to run in our Food Technology centre each morning and we are hoping to get our Wednesday morning cheese toasties up and running for term 2. All students are welcome.

Anzac Day

Our school captains, Dakota and Rouqaya will represent the College at the Craigieburn ANZAC day commemorative day service, on Monday the 25th of April at the Craigieburn War memorial.

Harmony Week

Harmony Week is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background, united by a set of core Australian values. Our CSC community displayed amazing examples of this during the week of March 21 to 25. It was fantastic to see so many students and staff embrace the spirit of the celebrations.  A big thank you to our Allied Health team leaders Atha and Rita who lead a great team of staff and students in providing activities, music, and dances. It was great to see so many students and staff joining in singing and dancing together and learning about each other’s cultures.  Our CSC community is made up of over 40 different cultures and language backgrounds. How lucky we are and how special it is, to be in such a privileged position, where we can learn together about each other. Knowing, sharing, and celebrating our diversity gives us all a special gift that we can carry with us throughout our lives.

Attendance

A new term is a great time to re-focus on student attendance and going to school every day is the single most important part of education. There is further information on the importance of attendance in this newsletter.

The upcoming holidays provide an opportunity for our students, families, and staff to have a well-earned break, everyone has worked extremely hard this term. For our senior students, this is a good chance to consolidate the learning done in units one and three by reviewing and summarising the topics covered.

Enjoy the break and stay safe.

Warm regards,
