Zoom into History

Living in the Past and Bushrangers

During the last two weeks we have joined virtual excursions via Zoom. This means we can access resources and teachers not usually available to us (particularly in these COVID times).

A couple of weeks ago we watched a presentation from Vaucluse House in Sydney. This was co-hosted by two of the family members currently appearing in Back in Time for Dinner, a show hosted by Annabel Crabb on the ABC. We looked at how people used to eat, play and organise their lives one hundred years ago.

Last week we linked up with the Sydney Living Museum and learned about Bushrangers. The children were very engaged and we found out about the escapades of bushrangers such as Captain Moonlight, Frank Gardiner and Thunderbolt. The children were shown artefacts and photos from that era.  They were able to interact with the presenters in these lessons and could contribute answers and ask questions.

The children then made their own WANTED posters.

Presentation Day

On Wednesday, 25th November we held our Presentation Day. Sadly, due to COVID restrictions, we were unable to invite families to the event.

The day began with a Smoking Ceremony which was carried out by Elliott. The purpose of this ceremony is to cleanse individuals and spaces and all the children and staff participated in this moving event.

Medals were awarded across academic, sporting and social areas, as well as two Perpetual Shields. Photos were taken by a professional photographer and will be available to parents soon. More details and photos will be in the next newsletter.
