Parent Survey
Volleyball and Fitness with Clare
At the end of 2019, we distributed a survey about our school to families. We were pleased to receive some constructive feedback. Now, at the end of 2020, we would like to reflect on how that input has helped to shape our school year.
Suggestion: More detailed newsletter
Action: During 2020 we trialled a few different newsletters. We are currently using the iNewsletter format. This allows us to include more information about what we do at school and more photos of your children in action! We also include a Coming Soon… section so you are informed about future events. Feedback received has been positive.
Suggestion: More Aboriginal Education
Action: In February 2020 we engaged the services of Elliott Knight, an Aboriginal Elder from the local area. Elliott delivers an Aboriginal language and culture programme each Wednesday, (COVID interrupted this programme earlier in the year), and the children speak highly of Elliott and are very engaged during his lessons.
Suggestion: Extra languages to be taught
Action: As well as instruction in the Bundjalung language by Elliott, we are also learning Chinese. Each Friday we have a half hour session via Zoom.
Suggestion: More sport
Action: With the assistance of a sporting grant, we have been able to provide students with lessons in Soccer, Hockey, Volleyball, Swimming and general Fitness. Each session has been run by qualified coaches.
Suggestion: More Art and Craft
Action: We have scheduled extra craft and art lessons each week during Semester Two. We have also used lessons suggested by the NSW Art Gallery in an attempt to give the children authentic experiences. During Term Four we have also had a qualified pottery instructor each Thursday morning.
Suggestion: More Parent Events
Action: Unfortunately, due to COVID, this plan has been interrupted. Hopefully in 2021 we will be able to have more events and activities that parents will be able to attend.
Open lines of communication are essential between schools and communities. Thank you for your input, whether it be from our survey or any other way. We value your ideas and do our best to acknowledge them and put them into practice, when we can.
Regards, Wendy
