Ti's the season

T'is the Season

In 2009, Tim Minchin released his southern hemisphere-centric Christmas song call ‘Drinking White Wine in the Sun’. The song has the regular edgy cynicism associated with the amazing Mr Minchin, but the tune, originally written for his daughter, also highlights the importance of family and those close to you.

And you, my baby girl

My jetlagged infant daughter

You'll be handed round the room

Like a puppy at a primary school

And you won't understand

But you will learn someday

That wherever you are and whatever you face

These are the people who'll make you feel safe in this world’

Could I take the opportunity to wish all of our community a happy and safe holiday period. Whether the break for you is religious or not, relaxing or frenetic, home or away, full of family or full of friend, too long or way too short – I hope you return to us ready to take on the challenges that 2023 will no doubt offer.

A Sun Smart Summer

As my our son recently returned from his Schoolies adventure with a sunburn, I was reminded of the importance of maintaining the slip slop slap seek & slide mentality.  I have embedded this video of what I think is a particularly eloquent seagull.  The delivery is a bit on the childish side but so is getting burned.

To our graduating class of 2022

With VCE results live to our class of 2022 on Monday 12th December, it was for some, an anxious wait.  It is important to note that no one number can ever define who a person is, or indeed, who they will become.  The ATAR is little more than a block to start from, a launching pad for what will no doubt be a life filled with defining moments, joyous trivialities, heartbreaking experiences and loads of fulfilling hard work.  Success may be wonderous, but absence of it is powerful; from it springs growth (if you let it).

My congratulations to all of our 2022 cohort; parents, teachers and students.  Be proud of what you have achieved.  Completing year 12 is no small feat – now go out and make your mark.

Year 10 2023 – Welcome

The new kids on the block here at Holloway have already started to settle in.  After the year 9 camp (held during Head-start) I am starting to see why this cohort was described as a ball of potential. I am looking forward to seeing that potential realized in 2023 and in the years to graduation in 2025. I have already discussed the importance of attendance and respectful engagement to the new arrival.  These are cornerstones for us to build on here at Holloway road as we start the senior school section of our secondary educational journey.

VCE(11 & 12) / VM(11) / VPC(11) / VCAL(12) commences at pace

It is clear to see the focus and determination on our year 11 and 12 (2023 cohort), as they steadied themselves for the big task ahead.  Whether starting the Vocational Major / VPC,  heading into the final year of VCAL, or preparing for a VCE experience, students look ready to take on the challenges in front of them.

At the Pat Cronin Foundation their vision is simple— a world free from the Coward Punch.

The foundation work to achieve this vision by providing an optimistic voice and empowering approach to awareness, education and research—working with schools, clubs, community groups and young people to End the Coward Punch together.

Our VCAL and VCE Year 11 students attended a presentation by the Pat Cronin Foundation where they learned about the impact of violence and coward punches. The aim is to help young people explore ways to prevent conflict escalation and support the necessary change we seek in our community.
