National Reconciliation Week 2026: All In at Woodville Gardens

This year, National Reconciliation Week (NRW) runs from 27 May to 3 June, and we’re inviting all Woodville Gardens families to join us as we celebrate the theme “All In.” This message calls every Australian to step off the sidelines and get involved in reconciliation—every single day.

Why Reconciliation Week Matters

Reconciliation is about building respectful relationships and understanding between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the wider Australian community. It isn’t something that happens on its own—reconciliation requires us all to play our part. By learning, acting, and reflecting together, we create a community that truly values Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and futures.

NRW at Woodville Gardens

Our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) committee plays a key role in ensuring NRW is a meaningful time for learning, reflection, and unity. This year, the committee—together with students, staff, and our community—has organised a range of engaging events, and we encourage you to take part.

Key Events

Sorry Day Gathering: Tuesday, 26 May at 2.15pm. Join us for a Welcome to Country by Uncle Moogy and a performance by the Tal-kin-jeri Dance group. Families are warmly welcome.
Deadly Doors Project: See how each building collaborates to create displays themed around “All In.” These will be showcased throughout the school and later in the Plaza.
Indigenous Trail & Lunchtime Activities: Discover our expanded Indigenous trail and enjoy special activities in the library.
Community Afternoon: Drop in to our Language and Culture space after school on Thursday to connect and share with others.
Book Displays & Specialist Activities: Enjoy a variety of books celebrating Indigenous culture, along with specialist lessons and cooking experiences.

Our RAP Committee has worked hard to create a welcoming and enriching program for the whole school.

We invite families to discuss reconciliation at home, join our events, and help us celebrate our vibrant, united community. Together, let’s all be “All In” for Reconciliation Week 2026 at Woodville Gardens!

Farewell and Thank You, Debra

We are sad to announce that Debra Smithson-Tomas will be retiring next week after many years of outstanding service at Woodville Gardens School and other schools across Adelaide. Debra’s passion for teaching, caring nature, and dedication have left a lasting impact on countless students, families, and colleagues. She has inspired, supported, and nurtured children throughout her career, making a real difference in our community.

As Debra prepares for her well-deserved retirement, we invite families and students to show their gratitude with a message, or kind words in person. Let’s all join together to celebrate Ms Debra’s remarkable contribution to our school and wish her every happiness in the future.

Term 2 Challenge: Showing Respect

This term at Woodville Gardens School, our focus value is Respect. We are encouraging every student to take on the challenge of showing respect in their words, actions, and attitude—at school, at home, and in the community.

Showing respect is about listening to others, treating everyone with kindness, looking after our school environment, and wearing our uniform and hat with pride. It’s about celebrating our differences and making everyone feel valued and safe.

Families can support this challenge by encouraging children to use respectful language, help others, and take responsibility for their belongings and actions. Recognition and reminders about Respect will be shared at assemblies and in classrooms throughout the term.

Let’s work together to make respect a daily habit, helping our school community become even more welcoming and supportive!
