F-5 Swimming & Aquatics - Elizabeth Aquadome
Detailed information along with a consent form for our annual F-5 Swimming and Aquatics program was sent out to families via Edsmart at the end of Term 1. Please contact your child's teacher if you haven't received this and ask for it to be resent.
This year, the program will run across Weeks 4 & 5 (Monday 22 May – Friday 2 June). Swimming is an important part of the Health and Physical Education curriculum that helps students develop a range of knowledge, skills, understanding and attitudes about:
- Water confidence
- Survival in the water
- Swimming techniques
- Rescue of others
- Water safety
- Endurance and fitness (as outlined in the DfE swimming program).
Classes swimming in Week 4 (22 May until 26 May) are 1303, 1304, 301, 302, 304, 305, 306, 404, 405 and year 5 students from 1407 and 1408.
Classes swimming in Week 5 (29 May until 2 June) are 1305, 1306, 309, 310, 401, 402, 409 and 410.
Teachers will contact families via Bloomz to advise swimming times for each class and will modify eating times for recess and lunch if needed.
What to Pack
- Students are permitted to wear bathers under their uniform (board shorts must be above the knees). All students are required to wear the correct school uniform
- Please pack a towel, a plastic bag for wet items, a change of underwear, a snack and enough water to last the time at the pool
- Students can not purchase items from the Aquadome kiosk. We also ask that parents do not purchase food for their children from the kiosk
- Any medication required will be taken to the pool by the classroom teacher
- Students are not permitted to bring mobile phones or smart watches
Changing
We want children to be as independent as possible and we ask that you support your child by allowing them to be responsible for preparing for their swimming lessons and changing back into their uniforms for school. If absolutely necessary parents are permitted to assist in changing their own child under the following conditions:
- Mothers can assist in changing their daughters in the female change area
- Fathers can assist in changing their sons in the male change area (family dry changeroom)
- Mothers needing to assist their sons will need to do so in the family change area
- Fathers needing to assist their daughters will need to do so in the family change area
Spectating
Parents and carers are welcome to meet us at the pool to watch their child swim. The Aquadome has advised us of the following information:
- There is now a $2.00 spectator fee per person, payable to the Aquadome upon entry.
- Parents will need to sit in the designated viewing areas only at the Aquadome.
- The areas directly on the side of the pool are reserved for students, instructors and school staff only and will not be available to any parent to watch their child swim.
Providing a safe environment is a key priority at Greenwith Primary School and in supporting the Child Curriculum Practices and Protective Practices Guidelines no photography of students will be permitted. Please note: Photographs and videos of any child cannot be taken by adults; this includes family members and Greenwith Primary School staff.
Helpful Hints
To help our school community better prepare for swimming, teaching staff have also shared the following helpful hints:
- Make sure all items are clearly labelled, including bathers, clothing, goggles and towels
- Hooded towels are fabulous for allowing students to be hands-free while dressing and drying. They also add that extra bit of privacy while changing
- Practice with your child prior to swimming lessons on getting into and out of their swimming clothes and into their school uniforms. Make it a game and set a timer
- Have a spare bag to put all their wet clothes in
- Pack a snack as they get hungry after swimming
- Challenge your child (year 3/4/5) to pack their own swimming bag so they are aware of all the things they should take for swimming and also so they know what to bring home!
- Teaching your child independence with dressing and undressing before swimming is a fabulous idea
- Goggles are very important to help the eyes as the water can be very chlorinated
SAPSASA Girls Cricket
On Thursday of Week 11, the SAPSASA Girls Cricket team played their first game for 2023 against Highgate Primary School. Our Girls came out focused and prepared for the tough game ahead of us.
We lost the toss and Highgate decided to bowl first. We were prepared to bat and get as many runs as we could. We batted the best we could and were very happy with our total score of runs, which was 4/99. We would just like to say well done to Alia on making 21 runs and Chloe making 19 runs.
Once Highgate finished bowling their 20 overs, it was time for us to bowl and field. Highgate tried very hard to catch our score but didn't make it, only getting 5/60. We would just like to say well done to Elise, Chloe, Isabelle, Olivia and Georgia for getting our amazing wickets and run-outs.
We were happy to take the win by 39 runs. We would like to thank Mr Smith and Brayden our coaches for all the hard work and effort that they have put in to help us win the game. We would also like to thank Highgate for giving us a challenge. Thanks to all the parents and students that came along and watched the game and made this day happen.
