Amelie T-M - National Swimming Championships

Amelie had a fun filled eight days on the Gold Coast, with great weather and lots of swimming!   She qualified for 50m, 100m, 200m breaststroke and made two relays teams for Nunawading Club. Amelie's first event was the 50m breaststroke and she did her personal best (PB) and made the A-Finals (top 10). There were B-Finals for the 11-20 age groups for 50m and 100m events only, in all strokes.  Amelie PB'd again in the finals and came 8th overall.  She also swam the 100m and 200m breaststroke which she said she enjoyed. A positive end to her first experience.  Amelie is determined to improve next year and do other strokes – this experience has motivated her to train harder.

Alasdair N - Cycling

On Saturday March 25th, I competed in the 6th and final round of the VICS Interschool Cycling. It was hosted at the Casey Fields criterium circuit by Blackburn Cycling Club, which is the club I am in. The race was interesting; it was rather calm with not too many attacks. The first attack came from me, however I didn’t want to keep going as it was early in the race, so I stopped and was reeled back in by the peloton. The next attack came from the strongest rider of the day and he won the race from the attack. I tried to catch him a couple of minutes later, but he was too far away.  There was another rider who broke away that the group didn’t notice who took second place. This left a group sprint for third place. When the bell for the last lap rang we started to find better position and we stayed like that until the last 500m of the race. For the last 200m some riders started sprinting too early, which gave me the chance to chase them down and slingshot off their sprint, letting me take a decisive 3rd place for the day.  I also took 2nd overall for the entire series which earnt me a medal.
