Pastoral Care and Student Wellbeing
On Friday March 31 our College community celebrated Harmony Day. This is always one of the most anticipated days on our College calendar and this year did not disappoint. It was heartwarming to see so many diverse cultures celebrated. It is this diversity that makes our College truly special and unique. The challenge for our community now is to see and acknowledge this diversity and ensure all in our College feel accepted and included - on all days not just Harmony Day.
Independent Drug Education Australia
On Friday April 28 Years 9 and 10 will attend a presentation by Independent Drug Education Australia. The aim of this presentation is to provide students with skills and strategies they can use to protect themselves and their friends in situations where alcohol and other illicit drugs may be involved. It is not only about prevention, but harm reduction and what to do when things go wrong. The students also cover other topics such as drugs & the law (getting searched by police, criminal records etc.), the most recent drug-related data/trends with an emphasis on the fact that most young people do not use alcohol or other drugs. The topic of vaping is also addressed.
The permission note is available on Compass and parents are asked to complete this and make the $7 payment as soon as possible.
SchoolTV
SchoolTV is a wellbeing resource that can support you in the challenges relating to modern-day parenting. This award-winning resource helps build relationships, foster connections, enable understanding and break down barriers to navigate a pathway towards better mental health and wellbeing for young people. It can assist in starting conversations on topics that are sometimes awkward or difficult to tackle.
Topics feature interviews with leading youth wellbeing experts and researchers from around the world offering hours of relevant and practical information. Additionally, each topic includes a compilation of related resources from key organisations providing a comprehensive stream of content.
We are fortunate that this resource is available to the community via the MCC website. The icon below can be found at the bottom of the home page and provides a quick link to SchoolTV.
Holiday Supports
This term has been busy for all and the break is eagerly anticipated by staff and students alike. In saying this, we are also aware that school holidays can place additional pressures on families. I would like to draw to your attention the graphic below that outlines important contacts that may be valuable over the holiday break.
I would like to wish you all a safe holiday. Easter is a time of renewal and my hope is that our MCC community has the opportunity to recharge and refresh for the next busy term.
