Afterschool extension sessions

Plenty Parklands students are fortunate to be provided with extra specialist sessions this term to enhance their skills and knowledge in various areas of the curriculum. Our PE, Art, Drama and Indonesian teachers have opened up sessions to targeted year levels, whilst our Music teacher Mr Stubberfield will use the sessions after school to develop our students involved in the two school bands. Thank you greatly to the staff involved. Our community is very lucky as it is not common for opportunities like this to be available in Victorian primary schools.

Upcoming student free day

Just a reminder that Monday May the 22nd is a student free day. Staff will be at Plenty Parklands, working on their student assessments and reports. If you require support with your child’s supervision on the day, Their Care will be open in the school hall. I recently completed a moderation session with all teachers, looking at assessing students on their behaviour and effort. Our staff have a clear understanding of what constitutes an Excellent, Very Good or Good in each category.

Building Update

Our STEM building is coming along quickly, with the structural steel in place and the roof about to be constructed. We are expecting an August completion date. Then we move on to the renovation of our Administration building which is long overdue. In exciting news, Ms Nixon is meeting with various PPPS staff to begin the process of purchasing new furniture for our new learning spaces.

State Funeral Service

As a mark of mourning and respect, the Australian National Flag was flown at half-mast today on Friday 5 May 2023 in Victoria by Australian Government departments and affiliated agencies. This was to acknowledge the State Funeral Service for Father Robert Maguire AM RFD (1934 – 2023).

Congratulations

Yesterday our Lawn Bowls team competed in their third event this year, the State Finals at Sunbury Bowls Club. In an unbelievable effort they won their pool and then the Grand Final in a thrilling game 8 points to 7 points against Paynesville PS. Congratulations to our students and the coach, Mr Anthony Falcone. A special thanks to the parents who attended and to the Whittlesea Bowls Club who provided the two minibuses, drivers and coaching support throughout the three stages of competition.

Attitudes to School Survey

The Department of Education will soon conduct a survey to find out what your child thinks of our school. The Attitudes to School survey is an annual survey for Years 4 to Year 12 students.   It is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of students' perceptions and experience of school.  Students will be asked about their thoughts and feelings in relation to their school, their learning, peer relationships, teachers and life in general. Our school will use the survey results to plan programs and activities to improve your child's experience at school. All responses to the survey are anonymous.

Regards,
