Year 12 Ball - ‘Midnight in Paris’
Mrs Natalie Turner and Mrs Rachel Davies
2023 Ball Coordinators
On Friday, 21 April, the Class of 2023 experienced one of the biggest highlights of their year – ‘The Midnight in Paris’ Ball. With the help of the 2023 Ball Committee and their many supporters, we created a magical night of memories that the boys will cherish forever. On Thursday, 20 April we held our public walkthrough, where many past and present families marvelled at the glittering and jaw-dropping installations designed and brought to life over the past six months.
We raised a whopping $916.00 for ‘Sock it to Sarcoma’, a charity close to the hearts of the Class of 2023.
We want to thank the entire Ball Committee for their vision and passion. We appreciate the countless hours, long days and nights, and their unwavering commitment to ensure ‘Midnight in Paris’ became a reality. Over the past six months, we had teams working on and off-site, creating a gravity-defying Eiffel Tower, a spectacular stage show complete with a larger-than-life heart, and striking windmill. A chandelier of limitless origami stars filled the beautiful flower shop, creating anticipation as you went upstairs. Teams magically turned the bathrooms into an unrecognisable train station and classy designer shop. The magic continued as the outside was transformed into a stunning streetscape; straight off a movie set, there was a rolling arrival’s board, hotels, restaurants, vintage cars and even a carousel. Our boys captured the night with hundreds of photos in three glamour-filled photo areas and danced the night away with beats from DJ Primz (Old Boy, Matteo Primerano, Class of’18). Without all of you, this event would not have been possible.
We would also like to thank the fantastic TC staff, particularly our Design & Technology department, Mr Phil Bloomfield and Mr Rohan Van Dongen, who worked with us to create the stunning Eiffel Towers on each table. Our Maintenance and Grounds department, headed up by Mr Dayne Whalan, was the backbone of the operation, ensuring we had access to the site and equipment we required to get the job done. Miss Melanie Dunn, Miss Joanna Creighton, Miss Sonia Rheinlander and Miss Casey Fawcett were exceptional throughout, helping us facilitate the ticket sales, arrange seating plans, photography and many other behind-the-scenes jobs. Finally, we thank our Head of Year, Mr Peter Oliver, for his cool and unflappable support – keeping us calm and positive throughout the journey.
The TC community is well known for its generosity and willingness to help; this year was no exception. We would like to recognise and thank the many companies and TC families who donated in a variety of ways:

‘Midnight in Paris’ Review
By John Van Beek (12.8)
Last Friday, the Class of 2023 had the time of their lives at the ball! With the theme "Midnight in Paris", the Trinity College Hall was transformed into a Magical night in Paris. From the moment we walked through the door, all the students and their partners were blown away by the incredible attention to detail. It was like stepping into another world, one that was straight out of a movie.
The Ball Committee and their numerous parent helpers really outdid themselves, and it was clear that no expense had been spared. From the massive Eiffel Tower hanging from the roof to the male toilets transformed into a train station, every detail was perfect. Even the stairway leading up to the hall was adorned with stars, lavish handrails, and fabrics. It felt like we were walking the red carpet at a movie premiere.
The attire worn by the guests was just as impressive. Everyone had gone all out with their outfits, and it was like a fashion show in the ballroom. The boys looked dashing in their suits and tuxedos, and the ladies were absolutely stunning in their elegant ball dresses. The atmosphere was electric, and everyone was having an amazing time.
To kick off the night, we were treated to a traditional 1920s dance performance. It was an excellent way to start the night, and it really set the tone for what was to come. We were all excited to see what else the organisers had in store for us.
But the highlight of the night was undoubtedly the music. DJ Primz (Matteo Primerano) had us all on the dance floor, grooving to the beat and having the time of our lives. The dance floor was packed all night long, and the energy was infectious. Shoutout to Connor Roberts, who stole the show with his killer dance moves and had us all in awe.
The event was organised by the Parents’ Ball Committee, with the assistance of Miss Mel Dunn and Mr Peter Oliver. Their hard work and dedication really paid off, and we were all blown away by the final result. It was an unforgettable night, and the perfect way to celebrate the amazing journey we have had at Trinity College.
In conclusion, the ball was an experience like no other. It was like stepping into a fairytale, one that we never wanted to end. From the incredible decor to the delicious food and amazing music, every detail was perfect. It was a night filled with laughter, dancing, and memories that will last a lifetime.

Year 11 student Blake Kulenovic recaps his amazing experience over the holidays;
It was the 17th of April 2023. I am getting on the bus to Nanga Bush camp with 40 complete strangers, with no phones or distractions. This meant after the 2.5 hour trip we were all talking and laughing, like we had known each other for years. Rocking up I was very nervous as I only knew a couple of people and I was also the only boy in my year group that had applied. Upon reflection I can now say I have left with a 2nd family.
Camp Hero has given me the opportunity to explore aspects of my character that I would have otherwise never uncovered. I would say the most important realisation would have to be my impact and capabilities as an upcoming leader. These were highlighted through my experiences with all the incredible challenges I took part in over the week. Overall, I found this camp fun, challenging and amazing, I was able to make new friends and learn so much about myself. It taught me many things but speaking up was my biggest takeaway and probably my greatest achievement. I was able to trust the boys telling my story, as I never had the courage to talk about my mental health.
Camp Hero taught me that I can speak up about my issues without feeling like I’m going to be judged. It’s a safe environment that allows you to get anything off your chest that you might need to. I felt comfortable to speak up because of one of my amazing mentors. This guy gave me the opportunity to tell my story and always encouraged me to speak and now all the boys want me to do public speaking. It has honestly allowed me to really let go and be my true self, where sometimes at school I can sometimes feel restricted and judged.
So, to anyone who is hiding their emotions, I encourage you to not be afraid to SPEAK UP, it was the best thing for me, and you can show the world who you really are. This is why I strongly encourage my TC Brothers to go on this camp, its an amazing opportunity for personal growth and you will have the best time! I feel like I have found my people. We shared our stories and looked out for each other. It was so awesome to feel that love and experience that brotherhood.
