Principal's Message
Welcome to Term 2
Welcome back to all our students and staff. Whilst Term 2 didn’t officially commence for the students until Wednesday, it seems a lot has already happened.
Midnight in Paris
Arguably the hottest ticket of all Year 12 Balls for 2023, Midnight in Paris was an incredibly impressive and successful evening. It’s clear that the coming together of the TC community defines and distinguishes our Ball and I’m sure it’s the reason why the students genuinely enjoyed the evening so much. Dressed impeccably and accompanying their guests respectfully, the Class of 2023 followed the advice of Mr Peter Oliver and danced ‘like no one was watching’. They also sang with ‘strength and vigour’ having remembered all the lyrics of Avicii’s The Nights from Presentation Evening, and came together in brotherhood to enjoy one another’s company.
The setting was undeniably stunning, yet the highlight for me and for the many staff who attended on the evening was the manner in which our boys, and your sons, conducted themselves throughout the night. It was evident they knew just how much effort had gone into making the Ball such a special night for them, and they honoured those efforts entirely.
Parent-Teacher-Student Interview Day
This year we conducted our Parent-Teacher-Student Interviews for the whole College on the first day of Term 2 with Junior School and Senior School on the same day. Our aims were to streamline the day for parents with boys across Junior and Senior School and to limit changes to the standard timetabled day in the first weeks of a new Term.
These days are such a valuable opportunity for parents, teachers and students to share information and insights on students’ learning, to acknowledge efforts and achievements of the year so far, and to collaboratively discuss strategies going forward. It’s so important for the boys to be at these meetings and we are continually impressed with the number of students who attend as part of the partnership with us and you, in their education.
ANZAC Day Commemoration
On Wednesday morning our ANZAC Day Commemoration occurred in Pastoral Care Group classes or Junior School classrooms. As a College, we paused to reflect on the incredible sacrifice our servicemen and women gave, and continue to give, in the protection of our values and freedoms. Many sacrificed their lives, and many more have returned home indelibly scarred by the tragedy of war. ANZAC Day reminds us of the enduring legacy that is our privilege of freedom; a freedom that we are afforded from selfless sacrifice and loss.
The Honour Boards in the Trinity College Chapel commemorate our Old Boys who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. The names of 139 young men lost in WWI, WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam War are situated within the most sacred space of the College, and the spirit of our Old Boys is honoured each time we gather in the Chapel in prayer and contemplation.
At a time when the people of Ukraine continue to be ravaged by the destructive impacts of war, we pray for peace and an end to their present suffering.
"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them."
