Principal's News

Mr Rodrigues

Dear Families,

Our children have certainly hit the ground running and are all well and truly immersed in their learning for Term 2. I have once again included the links to our Term 2 Learning Overviews for each class so that parents can see what will be covered in each of the curriculum areas. Of course, added to the academic learning, will be a number of incursions, excursions and extra curricula activities. Our Junior students are enjoying their swimming lessons and for the most part the weather has been kind enough to allow us all to walk down to the Richmond pool together. This walk in itself is a great learning opportunity for our children as teachers have spoken about the need to be safe while in and around traffic. A very big thank you to all those parents who are assisting with the walk, and at the pool, this has certainly made our teachers job much easier.  In a few weeks time our middle and senior children will begin their swimming program and I again invite any parents who are able to assist to let their child's teacher know.

School Photos

Unfortunately due to unforseen circumstances we have had to postpone school photos until Tuesday 6th June. We will communicate further in the coming weeks. School Photos will no longer be held next Wednesday 10th May.

Semester One Reports

At the end of the term parents will receive a formal written Semester One Report about their child's learning. As most families are aware these reports are to be read in conjunction with the Student Led Conversations which allow children to share and reflect on the work they have done throughout the semester, including their achievements and their challenges. For our new prep students this will be their first and we look forward to sharing this important part of our communication with families.

XAVIER COLLEGE MAYTIME FAIR

Save the date!

The Jesuit Mission Maytime Fair returns.

When:    9:00am – 5:00pm Saturday 6 May

Where: Xavier College Senior Campus,

135 Barkers Road, Kew

The Maytime Fair has been held at Xavier College on the first Saturday in May every year since 1952 (except for the ‘lockdown years’), raising funds to support the many educational and social outreach programs of Jesuit Mission.

All proceeds from the day go directly towards supporting at-risk communities across more than 10 countries in Asia and Africa, including Cambodia, Timor-Leste, India, Myanmar, Thailand, Malawi and more.

“We look forward to coming together again in solidarity as one faith community, to uplift our sisters and brothers on the margins," said Helen Forde, CEO of Jesuit Mission Australia.

Since the year 2000, the Maytime Fair has raised over $3 million to help provide a range of targeted support and training that empowers women, men and children to develop the skills and capacity to lift themselves out of poverty and injustice.

The Fair will include entertainment for parents and children with a huge array of food, music, rides, arts and crafts, games, plant stalls, book stalls, a wine auction, sport, face painting, raffles, showbags and lots more.

Prayer for peace. Last Tuesday we gathered as a country to reflect on the ANZACS and to pray for peace in our world. Sadly, as we know, Sudan is experiencing much unrest and devastation as a country. For those families from Sudan and all those we do not know we pray for peace and the safety of all people being affected.

“I pray that all may be one.” John 17:21

Loving God, pour out your peace upon us all. Lead us in your ways, united with our brothers and sisters in Christ throughout the world.
Hear our prayer, especially for the people of Sudan. Fill them with hope and strengthen their commitment as they come together to seek reconciliation and build peace, trust and understanding.
Work through your people to break down the barriers that prevent change. Melt the mistrust that divides, and calm the fears that lead to violence.
And unite us all in our desire for peace so that everyone may live free from conflict, hunger and injustice and all may flourish as one human family.
Amen.
