Year 5/6
The Year 5/6 students have enjoyed a fast paced and engaging beginning to the school year!
Literacy
Students have read a broad range of mentor texts to develop their reading and writing skills. They explored elements of a narrative text. They used Lego to create their own story setting, creating characters and wrote an engaging text. Students have also examined the features of a convincing persuasive text, creating their own pieces, which included a number of persuasive strategies.
Maths
Students have focused on problem solving using different types of equations and sharing the different strategies that they used. The camp to Coonawarra gave students 'real life' examples of how mathematics is used when planning a trip away.
Inquiry
During the topic 'Entrepreneurship', students had the opportunity to think of a new product and create a business plan to present to the teachers. Guest speaker, Travis Osborne, visited the school to discuss his journey from business idea to business success, as well as his appearance on the TV show 'Shark Tank'. As part of their market research, students created surveys for others to provide feedback about their business ideas.
Swimming
Students completed two weeks of swimming lessons to develop their ability to be safe around water. This program was thoroughly enjoyed by the students.
'Step Up'
Students visited Noble Park Secondary College to attend a 'Step Up' presentation by Darren Pereira who spoke to them about making positive choices: “To achieve great things in life is a choice. It’s never whether you can. It’s always whether you will.”
Wake and Shake
Each Wednesday, just before school starts, teachers and students have participated in a dance fitness session called 'Wake and Shake'. Please come down to the junior basketball court on a Wednesday morning for a dance.
Camp
The 5/6 students went to Camp Coonawarra from 14th - 17th March. There were immersed in a range of exciting activities, including a high ropes course, flying fox, canoeing, horse riding and a giant swing. While students had lots of fun, they also challenged themselves to try new experiences. At night they enjoyed bush dancing, a night nature walk and a gala fashion parade! Students and teachers returned on Friday exhausted but with so many fond memories to cherish.
