Miss Mel's Message

Principal - St Brigid's Primary School

Welcome to Term 2

Over the break, the school front has been cleared, pruned, and detailed with new render and paint applied to create a more manicured, welcoming and modern look to the school. Stay tuned for more exciting upgrades to come.

We are launching a new line or sports t-shirt and sports shorts in a breathable, wearable, durable fabric which is great for hot or cold, and will not fade. See samples in the foyer. We will organise a fitting day once our sample sizes arrive.

We have had a play space upgrade by IE Build down the side of the school, near the middles area. We will being having a focus on respecting this beautiful new space, using it appropriately and taking care of resources that will be supplied in the space.

Building Update

We had our official sod-turning event at the end of term with Father Vin blessing the grounds upon which we build. We were joined by our builders Rodine, Mary-Anne Thomas’ office, our architect Smith and Tracey, and MACS. From 5th May, we will lose access to the lower level of the school and we have almost relocated our resources, teacher workspaces, PFA and kitchen supplies.  Building works are tracking to finish early September 2023.

School Community

The school community participated in the local Anzac Day March which was attended by many families and staff. The school also held a school service on Thursday morning at 9am in the Learning Street which was also attended by Darren, an army officer, and Daniel, a navy officer. They shared their experiences and wisdom with us, and we also got to follow some of the commands and signals that are given in the army and the navy, learning about their similarities and differences. Lest We Forget.

Wellbeing

After the implementation of new procedures, and intensively reteaching areas of respect, staff saw a decrease in disrespect across the entire school of about 90%. This has highlighted that a lot of the behaviour was occurring through choice, and therefore was able to be turned around in such a short period of time. It also highlighted students who do need more support in this area. Congratulations to Senior JT who were the winners of the Respect Award for receiving the most respect tickets in the last four weeks of term. They enjoyed pizza and hot chips at Dixon Field, along with some activities on the oval.

A reminder regarding speech pathology, or other student learning and progress queries, follow-ups or concerns. We are very happy to have Margaret Sacco on board for speech, however, each query should be initiated with your child’s teacher first, and or a leader, if required. Teachers and leaders will communicate with the Wellbeing team, regarding your query, and make plans moving forward.

Staff engaged in professional development on the 26th April with Emma and Cara from U&I Educational Partners. This developed our understanding of the various needs of people within a community, and how best to support them on their educational journey, through a holistic approach. Our educational support staff continued to work with Emma and Cara, whilst the teachers engaged in Traits of Writing professional development and planned for the implementation of this within our classrooms.

Sacrament News

A big congratulations to Liam Burley our Grounds and Maintenance Guru (and amazing guinea pig carer, super volunteer-er and jack of all trades!) on making his sacraments in a beautiful ceremony on Easter Saturday. Liam prepared for these special Catholic traditions in his usual studious manner, with a curious mind and enthusiastic approach. Welcome to the Catholic Community, Liam! St Brigid's Community are lucky to have someone who lives out his faith each and every day.
