What is the subject about

 

 

Unit 3 and 4 for VCE English develops confident, articulate and critically aware communicators in written and spoken language through exposure to creating and analysing texts, moving from interpretation to reflection and critical analysis. It enhances their understanding, enjoyment and appreciation of the English language, recognising the role of language in thinking and expressing ideas. English assists students in making informed choices further establishing a sense of themselves, their world and their place in it. It equips students to actively participate in our democratic society and the global community.

Unit 4: Reading and Responding to texts AND Analysing Argument

 

Skills you will develop

 

  • Explain and analyse features of texts to create meaning
  • Examine different interpretations of texts
  • Synthesise ideas and interpretations to develop an interpretation of their own
  • Analyse the intent and logical development of an argument
  • develop, clarify and critique ideas presented in arguments
  • compare texts to negotiate and communicate a deeper understanding of ideas, issues and themes
  • develop reasoned arguments in oral form

Assessment

  • Analytical interpretation of a selected text [essay]
  • Creative response to text [essay]
  • An analysis argument [essay]
  • Sustained and reasoned point of view on a current issue [oral presentation}

 

English in Year 12 brings together all of the work we have been doing over the years and makes us think, challenge, question, appreciate and enjoy a number of media  film drama, poetry, etc.  Faith

 

Pathways

An excellent communicator will inevitably find employment in their field of study. 

 

Prerequisites

You are required to study and satisfy all of the requirements for VCE English Units 1 and 2.
