What is the subject about?

Students in Unit 3, explore the science of food, with topics such as digestion, nutrition and the impact of diet on health, whilst also examining the influences on food choices within communities and social environments. Students analyse evidence from sources like the Australian Dietary Guidelines to develop a comprehensive understanding of nutrient requirements and healthy eating recommendations.

In Unit 4, students explore the challenges of feeding a growing population. There is a focus on empowering consumers to make informed choices and understanding concepts like food security and sovereignty. Practical activities allow students to apply their knowledge by planning and preparing meals that meet diverse dietary needs, promoting nutritious and sustainable eating habits.
