Boarding News

Mr Jim Noble, Assistant Head of College - Boarding

Dear Boarding Parents,

I’d like to announce that Mrs Anna Nasr (assistant Head of College – Mission) is the new Senior Supervisor in Br Terence Residence starting this week. Anna possesses considerable boarding experience, including several years as head of a boys’ boarding house at St Gregory’s Campbelltown. It is also very beneficial for the boys to have a senior member of the College staff working with them in Br Terence Residence. We look forward to the contribution Anna is sure to make in boarding.

All the boarders will join the local Ashgrove community for the Anzac Service on Tuesday morning. The boys will march in school uniform and participate in the formalities at Ashgrove Memorial Park. The boys always do us proud at these very important occasions and I look forward to being part of this service with them.

Just a reminder that the online meeting of the Boarder Parent Network is this Wednesday evening starting at 6:30pm. A link will be sent from Boarding Reception to all boarding parents/guardians and you are warmly invited to join this meeting. This group discusses key boarding considerations, with parents and school staff communicating and working together to ensure the best experience for the boys.

This coming weekend is a long weekend and I’m sure a number of families are considering the opportunity to take their son on leave. Please remember the boys are expected to meet their team sporting commitment on Saturday and any suggested variation to this should be discussed with the coach of their team. It is also appreciated if leave requests could be submitted as early as possible through REACH.

Finally, I travel to Goondiwindi for the local show this Thursday, including the Aspects Art Show. Marist is providing a music clinic and an art clinic for children at the Goondiwindi Show (on Friday) and we look forward to supporting this regional event with some great, fun activities. Thanks to Dr Andrew Butt, Mrs Christine Larsen, Jake Platen, Jasmine Wilton and Megan Harmston who are making the trip out to Goondiwindi, along with a number of senior students, to help make these activities possible.

Boarding Recreation - Mr Blair Whitlock

Term 2 is always the most exciting term from a sporting perspective, and it was great to see so many of the boarders involved in chess, football, and rugby trial matches over the weekend. With the majority of boys playing rugby, there are always plenty of tired bodies, and we tend to go a little lighter on the recreation front during Term 2.

The main activity of the weekend was a trip up to Stuartholme on Saturday night for some s'mores and games on their oval. It's always nice heading up to Stuartholme and hearing what they've been up to during the holidays. We look forward to catching up with their boarders again in a couple of weeks' time for the Dolly's Day Netball Fundraiser evening. A great tradition that last year's boarding captains, Sam Miller and Connor Lyons, pioneered.

There were plenty of boys sleeping in on Sunday morning after a big day of rugby. Some of the early risers headed over to the Blue Nurses bike park in Ashgrove before a group of 40 boys stocked up on supplies at the local Brookside Shopping Centre. The boys have settled back into boarding life very quickly, and we look forward to an exciting term ahead!
