Sports Report

Harvey Simpson

Welcome to sport

We had another jam packed week full of sport! PE lessons, netball workshops and swimming carnivals were some of the highlights. We were fortunate enough this week to be blessed with some  good weather, as a result students enjoyed cricket lessons outdoors and also had the opportunity to participate in NSW netball  and Roosters rugby league workshops.

Sydney Catholic School Swimming Carnival

A huge congratulations to the students from STMM who qualified for the Sydney Catholic Schools swimming carnival. This was for students who met the qualifying standard times and therefore a great achievement even to qualify for the competition. From our school we had three students who attended the event, Andrie Szabo in year two, Luke Haddock in year 3 and Ava Henighen in year 6. A special mention to Isabella Gibbons who qualified for the competition but was unable to attend due to COVID, we know how hard isabella trains and it was a great shame to miss out, we wish her all the best next year.

Luke managed to swim a personal best in the 50m freestyle coming second in his heat and around 10th overall, a great achievement! Ava competed in four events with three different strokes and finished 4th in each event, a massive effort to compete in all those races in all four disciplines. Our youngest competitor Andrie qualified into the next stage in the 50m freestyle, we wish him all the best for his next event and hope to have another STMM student represent NSW!

NSW Netball & Roosters Rugby workshops

This week we were very fortunate to have specialist coaches come into school from NSW Netball and Roosters rugby club. The lessons are  great opportunities for students to practise their existing skills or learn a new sport.and are taught by experienced coaches. A rooster game development coach came into school to help teach the children safety and technique on how to tackle and introduce them to contact rugby.
