Myrniong - ELC to Yr 6

COVID Protocols

A big thank you to our learning community for your support in facilitating a safe start to 2022. If your family is like mine, we manage to find a common time twice a week to complete the RATs. Victorian Government advice this week has students in Years 3 to 6 still requiring masks in all classes, as well as students using buses. Parents no longer need to QR code when entering the Junior School.

Eight More Sleeps To The Mad Hatter Tea Party

Only eight more sleeps until the Junior School’s ‘Mad Hatter Tea Party’ on Friday 4 March. We look forward to high tea, creative hats, entertaining musicians, the opening of a 25 year old time capsule, speeches, and games on the oval. Parents are welcome to attend - as long as you are willing to join in the fun and dress up!

If you are an aficionado of chess, we have an opening for a parent/grandparent to run a Chess Club. A Working with Children Check is required. Please contact Mr. Nelson if you are interested.

A New Approach to Reading

Several opinion pieces in last weekend’s newspapers focused on the move by a small number of Victorian schools (College Junior School included) to join the ever-increasing number of primary schools in New South Wales, South Australia and Queensland in teaching the synthetic phonics approach. Synthetic phonics is a major focus of the InitiaLit program we are running in Prep, Year One and Year Two classrooms. It teaches children the 44 sounds, or phonemes in the English language and the letter combinations that make them. It breaks written language down into small and simple components.
