Senior School

At Oxley, we watched the Bureau of Meteorology site with great interest last week, as we sought to ensure all planned events would proceed, only if conditions were safe. The weather forecast for the Year 7 Parents’ BBQ was threatened storms and rain, so we reluctantly made the decision to cancel the evening. We thank our Year 7 students and parents for their understanding in this matter.

We also watched the frequent changing weather predictions prior to the Senior Athletics Carnival. Thankfully, meeting with Mr Kotzѐ the evening before, the forecast was positive, and it was indeed a magnificent warm, humid and dry day.

The Maintenance and PE staff arrived with the sunrise to set up at the Bill Sewart Athletics Track in Burwood East. Hurdles, shot put, discuss, batons and other equipment were distributed around the venue. Tables were set up under temporary shelters for scoring, adjudicating and safe storage of ribbons and starting guns.

Our usual facility in Doncaster was undergoing renovations, so we were grateful for this delightful venue, which included ample undercover area, a high-quality running track, a very good canteen and loads of green space to make students comfortable. Although we hope to return to our normal venue for 2023, this was an excellent replacement for the year.

Students arrived and there was a lovely feeling in the air as we enjoyed actually participating in a face-to-face, large group experience, especially after many cancellations and changes over the last two years. Behaviour was exemplary and it was great to witness students enjoying their competition day in such beautiful weather. Events ran to schedule and after many years of patient striving, White House won the overall event, the first win since 2011! For a complete round-up of final scores, go to the Senior Sport page.

A massive thank you to all students and staff, and to the parents who came to support, for making this such an exceptional day.

Thankfully, restrictions for people onsite is not interfering with the building works going full steam ahead. Painted blue metal framing is being installed on the concrete slabs of the Middle Years Building and the overall shape is becoming much more apparent. I can only imagine how excited our Year 7-9 students must be at the idea of moving into a brand-new building in the middle of the year!

It is a privilege to be able to look back over the last two weeks, indeed the last two years, to reflect on God’s goodness and faithfulness. He has continued to protect, sustain and bless our community, and individuals, during trying times. I thank Him for keeping His many promises, including that given to Joshua:

Joshua 1:5
No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.
