School Photos
It is exciting to have school photos fast approaching and we cannot wait to celebrate our Prep students first photo day with a big smile to the camera. To help ensure we are able to enjoy this day with the students, we ask that students come in FULL Summer uniform. This includes, black polished school shoes, navy blue hair accessories and navy blue socks.
Prep photos are commonly at the start of the day. Therefore, please ensure your child is on time on the day to avoid disappointment. Finally, please ensure all photo orders are placed through Compass as highlighted in a previous newsfeed.
Specialists Timetable
Please note due to the end of term approaching there has been a change in the Prep Specialists timetable due to a number of events occurring across the school. Therefore in Week 10 and 11, ALL Prep students will need to wear PE uniform on Monday 4th April ONLYand pack their sports shoes in their school bag on Wednesday 30th March.
Students are required to be in full academic uniform on all other days for the remainder of Term 1.
Toys at school
At South Melbourne Primary School we are very fortunate to have a wide range of toys available for students to play with at the appropriate times. Therefore, we ask that students do not bring any toys to school. This can lead to them becoming damaged and or lost, which can be very upsetting. Students will be requested to place any toys brought to school in their school bag for the duration of the day. We appreciate your support and understanding.
Book borrowing
We are very proud of our youngest students who have been taking wonderful care of books at home as they exploring the excitement of home readers this term for the first time. Students will be provided with 4 new home readers every Thursday during the school term.
To ensure your child does not miss out on book changing, please ensure they bring their home reader bag every Thursday with all books and their filled-in school diary. We look forward to doing our final book change for the Term on Thursday 31st of March.
Students will be required to bring their book bags on Thursday 7th of April ready for an end of Term audit. During the school holidays we encourage students to visit local libraries and borrow a range of books to explore over the two week period. We look forward to commencing Term 2 with new home readers for students to explore each night.
Home Learning over the holidays
We strongly encourage all students to continue home learning practice over the holidays. With many new learning areas commencing in Term 2, the holidays is a wonderful time to polish up the foundation skills learnt this term, including High Frequency Words, Phonics (letters and sounds) and reading of basic texts.
Students will be able to access a video to support their Phonics practise via Seesaw and we would recommend students to keep reading at least 4 times a week along with High Frequency Word practice (reading and writing). If you require any resources or support, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's classroom teacher.
