Our children are our future...
What a lovely and refreshing sight it was to have children and families using non-car methods to get to school on Friday (where it was possible) and joining in on the fun on the forecourt. The sea of beautiful faces reminded me of days not-so-long ago where we celebrated our children as a community. Thanks to all who partook; especially those who danced along with our aerobics instructors. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. Well done to Mr Callum who coordinated the whole event. Go to our Facebook site to see the celebrations.
This is the last iNewsletter before the holidays. There will be my usual Compass Newsfeed next Saturday and then the two week break for Easter. We will publish the next iNewsletter on the Saturday before we return.
A reminder that the last day of term is Friday, April 8 and we will finish with an assembly in the forecourt if the weather is suitable (we may relocate it at late notice if not). Parents will be welcome to view the assembly if it is in the forecourt, but cannot enter the building if we relocate to the gym. Remember that the last day is an early finish so please either pick your child up at 2:30pm or book them into the OSHClub service if you cannot make it on time.
Remember that ANZAC Day is on Monday, April 26 and our Curriculum Day is on Tuesday, April 26. No classes run on those days. OSHClub will run all day on the Tuesday if you book online. Term 2 then runs right through to Friday, June 24.
I want to thank our wonderful children for being such lovely spirits this term so far. Also to the parents for their kindness, gratitudes and beautiful hearts. We are very lucky to have you all on our side. Happy holidays when the time comes.
We handed out the last batch of RAT kits to students on Friday last week. There will be no more RAT kits handed out unless I get a direction from the Department of Education that the program will continue. Check your child's bag for that last kit.
A huge thank you to almost all parents who have been diligent in testing their child for COVID via the RAT program. It can't have been easy invading all of those snouts for the whole term - I would not have liked it as a kid! You would have seen that we had a few cases in classes, but, on the whole, it was manageable. We did not have huge disruption to classes - fingers crossed this continues. Above all, I wish all of our community good health, especially those who have contracted the virus. I hope your recovery is speedy and complete. I had my nephew's 6 year birthday celebration cancelled this weekend as the poor, little fellow caught the bug.
We have two more pop-up vaccinations opportunities run through the school this Monday, March 28 and Wednesday, March 30. They happen straight after school so you can just come in and Star Health will look after you. They close at 5pm so arriving a bit after the 3:30pm rush might seem like a sensible idea if you have the time. Gratitude to our wonderful Assistant Principal, Carmen Britnell for organising this for our community.
From everyone at South Melbourne Primary School, we would like to wish a very Happy Holi to all of our families and wider school community this weekend. Holi is also referred to as the Festival of Colours, Festival of Love and or the Festival of Spring. The ancient festival celebrates the eternal love of Radha Krishna, the arrival of Spring and the new harvest it brings and also signifies the triumph of good over evil. Holi is well known as the Festival of Colours due to the big parade where bright coloured powder and coloured water is thrown into the air and on your family and friends.
At SMPS we are so fortunate to celebrate different festivities all year around from all over the world and are grateful for the learnings we can all take from our very diverse community.
Let the colours of Holi spread the word of peace and love.
