2022 UNIT OF INQUIRY OVERVIEWS AND UNIT SHARES

In order to enhance the connection between home and school, Murrumbeena Primary School provides:

  1. unit of inquiry overviews at the beginning of units of inquiry
  2. an opportunity to attend a unit share at the conclusion of a unit of inquiry

Unit of inquiry overviews provide an outline of the key learning goals for the unit of inquiry.  The goals are developed by teaching teams utilising the Victorian Curriculum and the elements of the IB PYP.

The goals are written as student friendly statements which allow students and teachers to monitor progress. The overviews provide a context for parents when students come home and talk about their units of inquiry and can be used to prompt discussion with your child/ren.

We are always looking for parents who have knowledge, experience and expertise related to the units of inquiry to share this with the students. Parent sharing provides an opportunity to connect student learning with the real world.  Students always feel proud and excited when their parents come in and share with their class. Please contact your child’s classroom teacher if you would like to be involved in a unit of inquiry.

At the end of every unit of inquiry (roughly every 6-8 weeks),  families are invited to come and share in their child’s learning journey. Unit shares provide an informal opportunity for students to share their learning journey throughout a unit of inquiry with their family and other members of the classroom community.

This provides an authentic audience for students to utilise and further develop their communication skills and encourages students to reflect on their personal learning and achievements. Unit shares prepare students for annual student led conferences which are held in term 3 and the PYP Exhibition which takes place in Year 6.

Please keep an eye out on Compass for unit overviews and unit shares throughout the year.
