PEER SUPPORT

The Peer Support program begins at the end of Year 9 with two days of training for successful applicants.

Peer Support leaders are then involved in the Orientation Program for Grade 6 students and play an active role in welcoming these students at the start of Year 7.

From the start of the year there has been a PS leader to greet each Year 7 class during Transition at the start of the day.

A number of PS leaders also attended Year 7 camp and were invaluable in ensuring that this camp ran smoothly for the staff and students alike.

In addition to this, there is a formal Peer Support program, involving one period per week over six sessions during Term 1. These sessions include a wide variety of games, activities and discussions that are designed to support the transition of Year 7 students into the school. Year 7 students have completed three of these sessions that focus on themes such as “Working Together”, “Trust” and “Communication”.

I want to express my appreciation for the excellent efforts of this group of Peer Support leaders, who have worked diligently to ensure that our Year 7 students are well-supported during this important transition into secondary school.
