Lent - A time to Reflect and Repent…
The season of Lent began on Wednesday, 2nd March with Ash Wednesday.
Lent is a time for reflecting on our lives, for refocusing on God’s love for us,
and God’s call to love and serve others.
This season, let us celebrate the reconciling love and the healing graces God offers us.
May we aim to make a good examination of conscience.
Reflect on our past actions and present decisions, and repent on our many shortcomings.
This season, let us make a good confession and ask the Lord for a new and clean heart.
Pope Francis wants us this year to FAST for PEACE during Lent.
Lent is a time for renewal through:
Prayer
Fasting
Alms Giving
SHROVE TUESDAY - PANCAKE TUESDAY
Christian tradition: 'Shrove' comes from the word 'shrive', which means to give absolution after hearing confession.
Shrove Tuesday is when people went to confession to prepare themselves for Lent, which begins on the following day, Ash Wednesday.
Why do we eat pancakes on Shrove Tuesday? It started when Pope St Gregory prohibited Christians from eating all forms of meat and animal products during Lent, around AD 600. People made pancakes as a way to use up rich foods such as eggs, milk and butter, before the beginning of Lent.
Lent is a 40-day season of prayer, fasting and almsgiving in preparation for Easter.

CARITAS AUSTRALIA - PROJECT COMPASSION
Lent also marks the beginning of the annual Caritas Project Compassion appeal.
Every year St Brendan’s Primary School works hard with the whole school community to help raise money for Caritas.
This year the theme of Project Compassion is “For all future generations”.
Donations collected for Project Compassion, by our school community, allows Caritas Australia, the Catholic Agency for International Aid and Development, to work with local communities around the world to alleviate poverty, hunger, oppression and injustice.
We encourage you to put your compassion into action this Lent
